Views are my own. If I’m on here fighting fascists, it’s because of my firmly held religious beliefs.

Re: live-streaming the execution of Hasan. This is the perspective of nurse from the icu that took care of him in after his killing spree. He understands not just the gravity of Hasan’s actions but has obviously meditated on the consequences of our own. If only our leaders would do the same.

Hasan walked into Fort Hood expecting to die.
He believed his death would be rewarded. At his trial, he called no witnesses and offered no detense, and his own court-appointed lawyers worried he was seeking execution. He failed at martyrdom once. Now we're about to hand it to him, in high definition, for every extremist with an internet connection to replay, manipulate and celebrate.
We supply the footage. They supply the meaning.
Long after the politicians finish congratulating themselves, that video will still exist. Their moment of bravado becomes somebody else's recruiting material for decades. And this failure to think past the immediate display of power reaches far beyond one execution.
We count the enemies we kill. We rarely count the enemies we create.

You have probably already spotted this, but if not, I thought it was worthwhile piece. thespacecoastrocket.com/robert-burns...

You don’t owe anyone your trauma. You are under no obligation to rip open your chest and lay your still-beating, wounded heart in front of a world of men who will, once again, step on it. If you choose to speak, though, know that a world of women stand beside you.

Having real #MeToo flashbacks today, what with various news stories going around, and thinking a lot about how women were encouraged to rip themselves open and show off our trauma, in all its Technicolor glory, so that men might begin to believe us

i hope that men notice how whenever a rape story gets widespread coverage, women use it as an opportunity to vent about how fucking disgusting we think many of you are and how many have made our lives measurably worse, and take a few moments to deeply process that.

Every conversation about the Cornell case is irritating me because there is no way there was just one victim. Just one report. I need people to stop talking like no one had any idea they were rapists. Go crack open those middle school and high school records.
