Grumpy old man.

I mean, adjusted for inflation a plane ticket from New York to London in 1980 would cost about $4,500 dollars today. It's not that air travel has got worse. It's democratised. If you pay the 'old' price in modern money you basically get the same, if not better, experience than you did then.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.

the funny thing about people in the western world being angry at sikhs for taking all the trucking jobs is that people in India are also angry with them for taking all the trucking jobs. It's not you. It's what we do. We are the Truck Guys.

Lot of cis people still dont see trans people being forced out of public spaces as segregation and i urge them to wake the fuck up and read a history book as well as a dictionary Its *literally* segregation If you think even saying it is bad, you should be angry its actually happening

While the gen-ai bros are a cult, the worsening of Google is not due to the introduction of llm per se (paradoxically llm could actually improve search), but by a conscious decision: more time you spend in a search more ads they can serve you www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-...

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Its maddening that so many people cannot join the dots to see the swastika forming over the UK. Rises in hate crime are across the board because hate is being weaponised to exploit us. Trans segregation is inextricable from this. Its all the same fascism. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

She should be held to account for her rigged prescription of PA & the ridiculous consequences on our prison system. We are seeing 100s of places being taken up by pensioners who were waving cardboard, on remand & being convicted of terrorism because of her actions while murderers are being released.

I cannot emphasize how much of a non-issue this is. I use the women's. Doctors ask when my last period was. Airport security looks back up at me when I hand them my passport. I have navigated life smoothly as a woman for years, and I am only endangered by the ideological fixations on denying that.

Rose Schmits@roseschmits.bsky.social · 9h ago

Anyway i will just continue using the women’s toilet cause I am a woman and over my dead body will you deny who i am
