as I've seen friends in technical and other creative backgrounds point out this is also true of programming and art! the internet is overflowing with nice people eagerly giving away information they spent 20 years learning! none of it's gatekept at all that's why AI had so much to steal and resell 🙃

Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

good thread. for anybody missing context this is the commercial TLDR its entire reason for being made was to help children understand not everything they see on TV, but instead children believed this was real and they wanted one. incredible stuff 🦛

EA's annual Ebitda is around $1.5 billion, which should be enough to service the interest payments. But the publisher has told debt investors that it will cut $700 million in annual costs including $170 million in "organizational efficiencies," per Bloomberg. In other words: mass layoffs

EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest

For weapon VFX, everything has to work in multiplayer as well! All weapon VFX are simulated locally on each client - the shot and hit result are synchronized, and each client renders the muzzle flash, tracer, impact VFX, and decals independently. #gamedev #indiedev

One of the things I don't see discussed all that often is how having generations that aren't able to buy homes is going to have one hell of a knock on effect into retirement. The boomer generation was able to buy a house young and have it fully paid off by the time they hit retirement.
