I don’t want to defend plagiarism in any way at all, and yet I notice can’t help noticing who faces massive career consequences for it (Black academics) and who does not (Fareed Zakaria, Monica Crowley). It seems like there’s a secondary principle at work beyond just the plagiarism, you know?

How to make the “unreasonable search and seizure” clause mean anything in a world of pervasive digital surveillance has been an open question my entire adult life, but I truly believe that if you went back and explained this stuff to the Framers, the 4th Amendment would be two pages long.
BREAKING: Judge Carlton Reeves (Obama/SDMS) rules that tower dumps, which provide police with time and location data on many or all phones connected to a cell tower, are "per se unconstitutional general warrants," violating the 4th Amendment. Doc: www.documentcloud.org/documents/28...
If you come up a plan to sell FIFA to private equity too corrupt for your disgraced for corruption predecessor Sepp Blatter, you gotta get gone.

El-Sayed: "Once a government agency like ICE is told it has impunity to do the worst things and violate the highest law of the land, which is the Constitution itself, I don't think you can reform or retrain. I think we need to start from scratch ... I think we need to abolish it."
A simple declarative statement of fact. Refreshing!

Limestone dust is used to cover up coal faces to reduce the risk of explosions. But limestone is rarely pure calcite. It contains shells and sand that incorporate silica. So when it's ground to powder, you get a lung-irritating particle actually more damaging than coal dust. …
Black lung rates in Appalachia are high as the 1970s, with thousands of miners sick
Rates are now the highest they've been in nearly 50 years among veteran coal miners. Mining experts blame toxic silica dust, now more common in mines.

this is horrible and I'd urge people to criticize Moreno for literally any other reason than for the way he is trying to deal with his daughter's abuser. 1
Bernie Moreno’s reaction to Max Miller and his granddaughter “The best part of my day is when I start FaceTiming her. She's a sweet little girl. I can't even express to you what it feels like to have her in my life, I just wish her dad felt the same way.”
What makes this particularly galling is the penalty isn't even death. Trump just yells at you and it becomes a little bit harder to get rich grifting off of right wing voters for a few months.
Trump is trying to pull off a US-style version of the Tiananmen Square Massacre coverup where everyone in China who remembered what happened on June 4, 1989 knows *exactly* what they must not admit and is utterly terrified to speak the truth. I never imagined seeing such abject cowardice in the US.
That horrible video of a Ukrainian vegetable-seller being stalked by a Russian drone is just one example among many, many thousands of recent incidents where combatants used small drones to kill and terrorize obvious civilians. We have to do more to protect these people - and here’s some ways how:
What Can We Do About Drone Attacks on Civilians? Some Thoughts
Lately, I've been spending a lot of time analyzing, reporting on, and researching the horrifying global uptick in the use of small, cheap, short-range drones to intentionally target and kill civilians...

If AES wins, Schumer should do to him what Pelosi did to AOC, which was to bring him close to protect him and teach him. AOC is now a mainstream politician with a national profile. ARS could have that too, if he wins.
