FWIW, both of VDARE’s founders were on the masthead of the National Review in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Peter Brimelow was also a staffer for Senator Orrin Hatch. This white nationalist thread has been present in the conservative movement for a long time. Screenshot is from 1997.

J.J. Bell compiled a scrappy collection of old songs, ballads, & verse poems popular in Newcastle on Tyne, 1770s - 1820s & self published them in 1821. Yes, songs about Newcastle Beer, huffing Nitris (Oxygen Gas) & Talking Crows. BUT did you know GOTHAM was a nickname for the town of Newcastle?

The French Invasion, May 10, 1794 referring to some wags who sent the mayor a letter pretending to report a party of the French landing on the coast near Bambrough several months earlier in March. Clearly the "Mayor of Gotham" & all the people in Newcastle got pranked hard and thought it was true. Likely the whole town lost their shiznitz & acted so stupid, they had to preserve record of the epic level of stupid in a verse poem / song.
