Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.

This is more than half full & only just over a week to go. I know it's early & on a weekday, but if you register—even if you can't make it live—you get first access to the recording (before it goes public) AND you get entered to win fabulous prizes!

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

Early on @coyotemedia.org made a list of dream bylines we'd LOVE to have on the site and @annaleen.bsky.social was one of the first on it for me. So stoked to see this piece about ~~speculative transit~~ and big dreams for the Bay Area. www.coyotemedia.org/funding-bay-...

A Modest Proposal for Funding Transit Instead of AI

In the ’60s, the Bay Area almost got a high-speed train from Marin to San Jose. What could happen if we dreamed big again?

I put a call out for mural walls yesterday and I got a lot of VERY good walls for projects of a variety of scales. Unfortunately I have only sold enough shirts this summer to cover 2 of those walls. This means more people need to buy shirts. Thems the breaks. More shirts more art. SquidFacts.Net

a bunch of people in our shirts, including our biology is bigger than binaries shirt, adam whose poor head got cut off in his montage in our plant native plants shirt, a blonde dude in the shrimp shirt, and Jay in oue firefly squid shirt in the dark forest

We all love the idea of a bookstore meet-cute. Wandering the shelves. Picking up a recommendation from a bookseller. Reaching for the same book as a stranger. Spending an afternoon getting lost among the stacks. But those moments only happen if our independent bookstores can keep their doors open.

We're excited to reveal our newest illustrated novella: This Mortal Coil Written by @mythjae.bsky.social Illustrated by @soengery.bsky.social With gorgeous cover art by @artwins.bsky.social We’ve also got some very cool announcements to go with this cover reveal, but first, what's the story? 🧵✨

The cover for This Mortal Coil, with art by Jan and Vlad Schwarts. The book is written by Jasmine walls and illustrated by Marie Enger.

The cover shows a skeleton wearing a cloak and holding a golden, broken sword, their pose furtive as they tug at their hood. Behind them is a path leading up to a looming and shadowed castle framed by a bright moon and a blood red sky.

I cannot recommend n95 and kn95 masks enough. I've covered enormous wildfires multiple times throughout my career (southern california reporter) and they have saved my ass time and again. Remember, burning houses also means burning household chemicals

As the nation is engulfed by wildfire smoke, you should all know that there's a clear statistical link between exposure to drifting wildfire smoke and chronic respiratory, cardiovascular, and oncological (cancer) health problems. 🧵
