Queer & tired. Kaurna Yarta.

Pauline Hanson is such a fucking coward. Imagine needing to ban the wet lettuce leaves of the ABC, Age and Guardian from your events?!? How could any Prime Ministerial contender possibly handle a meek tut-tutting from limp liberal media?! It's farcical. Auspol is pathetic atm.

Naarm/Melbourne has again showed up in force to protest Israeli atrocity in Gaza and the West Bank, grotesque Australian government and corporate complicity, and the silence and indifference of the husks posing as human among us. From the river to the sea.

I find Rowling’s descent into total hatred one of the saddest things. The choice to devote yourself to hating people and ruining lives despite all the good fortune she had experienced and the joy she had brought is something I just cannot grasp.

one of the most frustrating things about what Rowling has turned into is how hard it is to explain to offline people that she’s not just another author who has turned out to have shitty views - her entire life and fortune is dedicated to destroying trans people

While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.

We are now hearing from Meta at the Racism Inquiry. Online racism has been called out as violent and increasing by many witnesses in this inquiry. Meta pretends it has all the policies and mechanisms to address if but clearly its not working.

I understand scientific processes pretty well, but we all got dragged through a lot of dumb bullshit before a certain class of scientist was willing to admit that SA's marine heatwave - and consequently climate change - was a precondition of the SA algal bloom.

New report reveals what triggered SA's catastrophic algal bloom crisis

A new report reveals what caused South Australia's most devastating algal bloom crisis — 18 months after it first appeared on the state's waters.

I'll be home in Oz for a couple of months from Aug and booked a few events at Festival of Dangerous Ideas (sold out) and this one for Curious at the Sydney Opera House on the creeping scourge of authoritarianism around the world, institutional cowardice etc. www.sydneyoperahouse.com/curious/can-...

Can it Happen Here?

The growth of populism and authoritarianism across the globe has alarmed us all. Has Australia dodged the bullet? Or are we just getting started?

In todays AUKUS hearing Christopher Pyne said the AUKUS deal “makes us a stronger and more important and useful ally”. Shows that AUKUS is all about USA imperialism and hegemony not our sovereignty, safety or military capabilities. It’s about how useful we are to the USA.

Reminder with everything going on that One Nation wants to change what family court sees as ‘abuse’ and how it responds to it because Pauline Hanson’s son had to face consequences after he plead guilty to dv related charges

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.

South Australia hit by a massive, multi-year coastal algae bloom, mediated by global heating and nutrient pollution, yet it *still* doesn't measure and report one of the biggest nutrient inputs to that system, discharge from the Murray River mouth. Simply incredible.

Incredibly, the South Australian Government does not record flow at this location, where Australia's longest and most important river system finally enters the sea ... even though that would be ~trivial to do.

Apparently there has been a dramatic drop in press coverage of climate catastrophe since 2020. This is unconscionable. A billion deaths. Three billion displaced. Who takes them? There is absolute hell ahead if we don’t find solutions.

The London Ambulance Service responded to the highest number of life-threatening emergencies in its history yesterday. The Chief Executive said this was "driven by the extreme heat across London".

The London Ambulance Service responded to the highest number of life-threatening emergencies in its history on Wednesday.

Temperatures soared to 36.1C in parts of the UK on Wednesday, and that record for June has been broken again today.

Ambulance crews responded to 642 calls relating to category 1 incidents - those that include the most serious, life-threatening injuries and illnesses such as cardiac arrests and patients who are not breathing.

Chief Executive Jason Killens KAM said this was "driven by the extreme heat across London".

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage. The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.” It’s about control.
