I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

Abdul El-Sayed has won, NBC News says. And there are other wins for the left in Michigan: —William Lawrence wins his U.S. House primary. —A DSA-backed candidate is leading a Democratic incumbent for state House. —Abbas Alawieh, co-founder of Uncommitted, leads for state Senate.
Utterly deranged attempt at coping. But also illustrative of the reality that a lot of elite Democratic figures order their campaign support priorities around the most insanely petty and embarrassing things.
Noteworthy how when a moderate wins, the expectation of progressives is that they immediately stifle their critiques and rally around the nominee. Yet, the kneejerk reaction to a leftist winning is to instantly scold the campaign and its supporters to "make amends" with the moderates/centrists.
the el-sayed win shows yet again that centrists are now everything they always claim the left is when it comes to israel: ideologically rigid, in hock to extremists, mistaking online beefs (ie hasan) for mass politics—and toxic to the electorate.
This primary is trying to give me a heart attack, so I'm taking a sleeping pill and will just check the results in the AM.
If Abdul indeed runs away with this tonight, the centrist meltdown will be strong enough to power a medium sized city.
CBS trying & failing to somehow make AES squirm by telling him that many of his volunteers are likely DSA members is hilarious because it really drives home how legacy press is perpetually stuck in the early 00's.

May be wrong here, but my sense is there is a whole media apparatus that aggressively screens Dem candidates and cautions voters not to support the more left-wing candidate. And this is asymmetric. Credible media messengers don't police right-wing candidates the same way.

I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.
So apparently prominent online Stevens' surrogates have decided that it's a good idea to start attacking the Mayor of Detroit on the eve of a primary in which they claim her best path to victory is winning over Black voters. A truly brilliant strategy, no notes.
I couldn't possibly care less one way or another about Piker as a political actor. But it's legitimately funny that center-left figures are so enraged over the surge of successful leftist primary campaigns that they've decided to focus their rage on a Twitch streamer of all things.
