Compare this to the central motorway and the significant cost to keep that open and risk to workers to keep vehicles flowing. Similar to the central motorway pedestrian bridge which has been closed for weeks with inpropper signage and a long diversion. Anyone remember the hierarchy of road users?

Over 700 people cycle past this point on a weekday, and many hundreds more will walk past but don't get counted. The only alternative provided is 'walk for an extra 20 minutes'. Not good enough.

This awful story is another reminder that helmets and high-viz will never be enough to fill the massive safety gaps left by insufficient infrastructure. A traffic calming device before the crosswalk likely would have prevented this death by forcing Knapp to stop, or at the very least, slow down.

What I hate most about @kevinclimate.bsky.social is that the maths & physics in his prognosis are unfortunately very simple & that in my opinion makes it virtually certain he’s right. And that means 4° by 2100 so no, I really do not f’ing like it, not even a little!

This bus stop is very recently rebuilt and TfGM seem to have forgot that someone in a wheelchair may want to use it.

Anyone thinking Burnham might be alright… he’s immediately coming after disabled people like Starmer tried and failed to do. Anyone thinking he might focus on wealth tax is deluding themselves. It’s just more of the same old austerity and let them eat cake just with a different accent.

Making the the East Coast Main Line have 4 tracks to Morpeth or even Alnwick would be a great option instead. It would allow more local stopping services, new stations and reduce the number of cars traveling up the A1 making it safer. The mayor should lobby for this over polluting road schemes.

Don't allow people other than residents and their guests to drive to the island. All other traffic has to use a shuttle bus going from Berwick stopping at a carpark near to the causeway. Stops an expensive two way bridge having to be built and encourages public transport use.

This and they shouldn't have the 0.75m marking. There aren't any rules on how far you should ride from the side of the road. Often it's safer to take the lane, encouraging drivers to overtake fully in the other lane. This could make some sense is if they say the average span of a bike is 0.75m

I agree with David, but also I’m in two minds about this police campaign. It’s suggesting 1.5m wheel-to-wheel. For my bike that would be around 1m wing mirror-to-handlebar. At 30mph that’s going to be scary and, I’d argue, unsafe (Alt text: pic shows car and bike on police mayo with measurements)
