Hen Tor & Willings Walls Common. Yep, nothing here but species-poor grassland, Molinia, and a bit of bracken. And a lot of sheep scattered about. The opportunity cost of maintaining the current grazing regime on this land is huge. It's as much a failure of the imagination as anything else.

Visited the barren, overgrazed Hen Tor common yesterday with @tonydartmoor.bsky.social - an ‘ecological dead zone’, as he called it This is an SSSI that’s now in declining condition with barely any heather left & a single rowan growing on a rocky ledge - and even that had been browsed by sheep!

Vulnerable children should not be ‘commodified’ as a source of private profit! Important work from Common Wealth to highlight this shocking situation.
