Woodwork nerd, reformed watch fiend, here for the fun stuff

I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

Here's an alternative reading of the OpenAI "hack": At all times OpenAI, the SaaS cloud everyone puts private data into, is one (1) container escape away from catastrophic security failure. And somehow, this makes their product more marketable to the tech press.

It turns out the kind of companies willing to layoff 10%-40% of their employees to save a buck with AI are also going shop around for the cheapest AI models instead of just giving those savings to frontier AI labs. Who would have guessed that?

im reading a book about the history of arsenic, so i looked up chelation therapy (one of the only treatments for arsenic poisoning), and the first thing i see is the mayo clinic being like "this does NOT work to cure autism" like....... maha/fake medicine is one step away from humors & leeches

We're all clever enough to twist each other's positions into heinous callousness, and we need to have the good sense not to do that. "Gotcha's" make you feel good, but this stuff is serious and deserves serious engagement. When we're talking life and death, it's best to hold back on the glib dunks.
