My trans pals were already feeling despondent with today’s EHRC guidance coming into force. Now one tells me that an organisation that supposedly supports trans people is covering up the abuse, bullying, and harassment of LGBT+ people within its ranks. Check in with mates. They need you today.

Solar energy supplied more power to Britain’s grid in July than any previous month on record. The figure of 14.4% of all power generated in July smashed the last monthly record of 12.4%, set only in May In July 2025, the (formerly) best year for solar generation, 9.6% of generation was from solar.

My thoughts go out to the loved ones of the woman who was killed and to all those who were injured in this attack. Whether it’s far-right thugs or religious extremists, we need to stand together in opposing their bigotry and hatred. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Is welfare spending ''out of control''? It's estimated to be 11.1 per cent of GDP this financial year. That's just 1.1 per cent of GDP higher than in 2007-08, and total welfare spending has actually fallen by 0.9 per cent of GDP since 2012-13 ⤵️

It will be good to see @monicalennon.bsky.social back in the Scottish Parliament. She has a record of actually improving people’s material conditions.
Being reported that Scottish Labour leader and Glasgow MSP, Anas Sarwar, will be taking up a junior minister role at Westminster, via a peerage. If that is indeed the case, not only does it trigger a leadership election, but it also returns Monica Lennon to Holyrood as she's 4th on the Glasgow list

Survivors speak out against UK early prison release scheme
Pressure is growing on the UK government to change controversial legislation that means some violent offenders will be released from jail earlier than expected.

Having experienced rape and domestic violence, it horrifies me that those who have committed such crimes may be released early. For this reason, I’ll never support prison abolition. Overcrowding needs to be addressed, but victims must be prioritised. www.channel4.com/news/survivo...
Survivors demand government exempt sex offenders from early release plan
Thousands of killers, rapists and sex offenders could be released early this September under the government's latest plans to ease overcrowding in prisons in England and Wales.

Average incomes can conceal how growth is distributed. Among all UK regions and nations, Scotland has the lowest proportion of workers earning below the Living Wage. This has been aided by deliberate policy choices, including Scotland's Fair Work agenda.
Scotland has also outperformed most of the UK on household disposable income, which includes earnings and benefits, net of taxes. Real GDHI per head has grown faster than in every English region except London.
But what matters most is living standards. Since devolution, median weekly earnings have risen by 23% in Scotland, versus 15% in England, 16% in Wales and 20% in Northern Ireland. Scotland has overtaken England and now has the highest earnings of all UK nations.
Since 1999, Scotland has recorded the fastest GDP growth per capita of any UK nation. Edinburgh now has the highest GDP per capita of any UK city. Productivity tells a similar story. Since the financial crisis, Scotland's productivity has grown at roughly twice the UK's rate.
I have friends who live in this ward. This result will be a temporary relief for them. Still, next year’s local elections are just around the corner.

The Stonewall riots began 57 years ago today. Queer patrons fought back against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, sparking days of protests against the police and discrimination. Today, the riots are widely recognised as a turning point in fighting for LGBTQ+ rights.
Last weekend I had the privilege to speak at Aberdeen’s local Pride protest. For many years now Pride has been a celebration. However, anti-LGBT+ rhetoric has been on the rise and we’ve seen a rollback on hard won rights. Only together can our community and allies keep progress moving forward.
SNP and Labour votes down but held more than I thought they would. Reform on 10% makes them competitive next year. I think 2 SNP, 1 Labour with 4th seat going either Greens or Reform, maybe even to an Independent, in 2027. Transfers will tell us more. Side note: Diabolical turnout for this.
