A more general point but people are also bad at thinking about how risk works. Something can have turned out to be unnecessary or even harmful and still have been the correct decision based on the information you had. Results do not prove the quality or otherwise of your decision-making.

I think it's okay if a once in a hundred years mass casualty event had a negative impact on people's mental health and development to keep people alive. One of those is potentially fixable in a way the other is not.

So how many more disabled people and older people should have been allowed to die so that young people could go out more during a pandemic? As one of these young people who was then at uni, struggled with lockdown & depression, and who also ended up in a wheelchair from long covid... Really?

Things I didn't have on my 2026 bing card: one of the (relatively) few UK journalists that I thought highly of coming out with highly unlearned, and potentially damaging, claims about covid like this one
