Call out to my translator friends: I'm collecting recent instances of genAI mistranslations for use in class, particularly involving French, German and English. Would be glad to see any examples you've come across.

Some movie credits run for over ten minutes, but many manga translators have to beg for clients to even allow their work to be listed on a private portfolio, let alone anywhere that the public can actually see and use, and manga production teams are *significantly* smaller. It's obscene, honestly.

Wouldn't mind adding a few video game reviewers to our freelancer pool if anyone is looking to pick up some work. We get codes across the spectrum of releases. ANN's policy is always 2 weeks per review (no overnight embargo deadlines!). Send published examples to Lynzee@AnimeNewsNetwork.com

Molly is right - democracy itself is set to be crushed if Reform sneaks a majority. The case for a switch to a proportional system, where they simply cannot do this with a twenty-something vote share, BEFORE the next election grows by the day, and the PM cannot keep ruling this out.

There could be no clearer signal that Reform propose to be a fascist government The purpose of a state of emergency is to suspend constitutional requirements Politicians and journalists who are committed to democracy should understand and act accordingly www.express.co.uk/news/politic...

Shaw Brothers star Chen Kuan-tai has passed away. From Susan Shaw's Facebook: "The best film—Gallants. Tai, have a safe journey! In the end, you still owe me an answer: where did you hide all that money you made? Say hello to Bruce for me when you see him."

Check out these Dazai stories translated by the brilliant Ralph McCarthy. Self-published, so word-of-mouth needed to let people know about them. In Ralph’s words, ‘The Ohson stories may be “niche” Dazai, but the humor is strong and the content is meaty. Enjoy!’ Pls share! #booksky #translation

What Irish, Welsh and Scottish Gaelic sound like - such an interesting comparison! It reminded me of how hard it is to learn a language whose sound is unfamiliar to us. In the 80s & before internet, I tried with Romanian. Today, we can spread the sounds. ❤️ #GoodMorning, everyone

You come into my restaurant and you place an order, not just for meat buns, but for a specific Chinese woman’s meat buns. Your grandmother’s. So I learn Chinese and fly to China, where she gives me the recipe. Months later I return to find you warm and comfortable in your chair at the table.

I could write volumes about the Orientalism inherent in expecting translated Asian texts to be somehow intrinsically different in vocabulary and metre to native English. They're not foreign and exotic to local readers, why on earth would you want them to be different for you if you want authenticity
