SCHIFF: You told my staff you stood by your article in white nationalist website VDARE where you wrote, 'Muslim immigrants & their kids seem prone to terrorism' C: I wrote that article in support of Trump's travel ban S: Do you stand by it? C: I stand by that article S: That's all I need to know

It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.

This is agent #7880, who we've become quite familiar with in immigration court & other videos like this around the Chicago area. He was also the agent giving orders at Broadview on Sept 26 last year, when his agents shot my reporting partner in the face w/a pepperball.

Yesterday prominent Chicagoland ICE observers shared video online depicting 2 federal agents approaching observers with weapons in hand, threatening arrest. The same video shows an agent using a vehicle to box in the observers' car, and another agent asking why the observers are blocking the road.

The one time cops actually did their jobs after a guy tried to break into my place, they pressured me to lie about what I’d seen so they could charge him with breaking and entering. (Technically he hadn’t entered but had slit the bathroom screen and opened the window when I heard him.)

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Young guy in an SUV coming down Lincoln toward Sunnyside saw me preparing to go thru the intersection as the light turned—slowed momentarily then actually sped up to go through the red. My kingdom for a semblance of traffic enforcement.

Afternoon work derailed by attempting to find the owner of a stray cat that wandered onto my back deck. Had to go get him scanned for a chip and then it turned out the owner had given it away. Good news is that they are coming over in a bit to get him!

Braved some rather large puddles after Monday’s massive storms to join @bikegridnow.org’s Bike Jam along Lincoln Avenue to advocate for more bike infrastructure. I liked Ruben’s ensemble incorporating shades of lavender and Veronica looking fierce in basic black with jeans.

Striking new poll of Texas Senate race: Talarico 45 Paxton 40 This is really notable: Talarico leads among non-college voters by 45-36 and among independents by 43-23 (!) Hard to imagine this is right but he's probably slightly ahead now. www.texastribune.org/2026/07/28/t...

Talarico leads Paxton by 5 points in new Texas Senate poll

The poll found the Austin Democrat with a commanding lead among independents and a surprising edge with non-college-educated voters, who have consistently favored Republicans.
