Great to see that National support 30 weeks Paid Parental Leave. Especially after they voted against the introduction of PPL. Blocked the extension to 26 weeks for several years. Canceled 33 pay equity claims. And just this year, cut Best Start payments for the majority of new parents.
The new 12.5% tariffs imposed by Trump on New Zealand require a very simple response: The cancellation of all deals on US arms. Start with the insanely expensive deal on the helicopters.
The High School I work for struggles to find staff each year to take on the added labour of training teachers on placement from various ITE centres near us. One has made a recent quite desperate plea below. They haven't found mentor teachers for 40% of their trainees!!! 1/
The members bill to make stalking a crime was literally lodged by Labour Party's Ginny Anderson in response to a murder that happened in 2022. Luxon wont tell you that though 🤷
We're all agreeing to call the second ferry the "Cooker" yeah?
This will get less media attention than the last few days of fawning Paul Henry stories.. #nzpol www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3610...
‘I am guilty’: Former ACT Party president has jail time added for latest sex charge

Talked with a bloke who works shore side in Wellington. A number of different projects running concurrently is likely to wreck interisland over the next two months.

Happy friday, Luxon just uploaded a photo of people flipping him off and then replaced it with an edited version 20mins later 👍🏽 Thats our Prime Minister 🤦🏾
MichaelLaws career lurched from 1 racist, mysogenistic or anti-Disabilities comment, to another. He resigned from Parliament after his Parliamentary sec forged a signature as a non-existent "#AntoinetteBeck" to grant a poll contract to a company part owned by his wife www.1news.co.nz/2026/07/03/f...
Chris Bishop would become apoplectic
I think we should start measuring government programmes in Hayden Donnell's 'metres of roading'. Lowering the age of bowel cancer screening to 45? 5 metres of road. A year of Three Waters? 63 metres of road. Reading recovery? 13mm of road.
Why am I not surprised that Nick Smith is still trying to meddle with justice for Māori so that property rights still don't actually get honoured? www.rnz.co.nz/news/environ...
Really common practice in authoritarian states is to "work towards the leader". Whereby the leader doesn't have to give specific orders but officials pursue programmes that push their organisation towards the leader's goals. Which is bad, but I'm not sure it is any better or worse.
More Ministerial deflection by involving "operational matters": >>>Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has held his weekly post-cabinet media conference, after revelations MSD staff have performance targets to reduce emergency housing numbers. [...] Potaka told Q+A... (1)
This is the kind of shit Luxon wants to see more Kiwi companies doing.
Some amazing quotes in this article about how Ford replaced hundreds of engineers with AI, which broke a bunch of shit causing billions in damage and forcing them to rehire those people. www.the-independent.com/tech/ford-ai...
Imagine if teachers were given bonuses for failing student work to keep achievement numbers down. That's the equivalent of the MSD scandal. #nzpol
Is it more of a kick in the guts than causing families grief by preventing early detection and treatment of treatable cancers because our healthcare system is phenomenally underfunded though?

Given the tax excludes family homes and farms, and is only applicable to quite large amounts of inherited wealth, perhaps we should be calling it a nepobaby tax

The three players in this photo: 1. Nigerian heritage, grew up in England, and is only a citizen thanks to birthright citizenship. 2. Born + raised in Holland, has a dad who immigrated to the US from Suriname. 3. Said he wanted to “make people who look like me proud” while playing on Juneteenth
