There is a difference between a disabled person standing up and saying “I want to show you the adaptations I have made and encourage others to try to find what works for them” and nondisabled people putting a “good disabled person” (one who asks for nothing and teaches them lessons) on a pedestal.

It’s apparently “don’t share inspiration porn o’clock”. A disabled person doing something skillfully should not be cause for “shock”. Especially when that person has been doing whatever it is for 40+ years. Objectifying someone for nondisabled feel-good time is demoralizing.

There is no version of yourself you could become that would satisfy the people who hate you. So you might as well be who you are.

If we care about disability justice, one of the lowest-hanging fruits is masks in healthcare. It remains unacceptable that vulnerable patients must ask, sometimes beg, healthcare workers to mask, while also explaining to them why respirator masks are better

many who talk abt the woes of “community” don’t want community. they don’t want to be challenged, inconvenienced, check others or be checked. they want unmitigated access to others without “doing the work”. it unsettles me how queer folks use “community” the way the homes we fled from use “family”

"god can't we just enjoy something for one second" is something I'm seeing a lot re: jimothy. quick question: you still wearing a quality respirator in all public spaces? not dining in restaurants? no? then no, you can't enjoy it w/o seeing that it's pissing off disabled people 🤷‍♀️

That’s not because disabled people are quiet. It’s because you’ve been conditioned to see marginalized groups speaking out for themselves as fringe and annoying instead of vital. And silencing us is easy. After all, we give nondisabled people the ick.

HW wasn’t a magnanimous saint for this. He’s a big reason SSI asset limits exist. It was really hard to deny the groundswell of support after people watched disabled people leave their mobility aids to drag themselves up the stairs of the People’s House. You’ll note coverage is sparser lately.

If you enjoy things like your boss not being able to demand why you’re calling out sick and FMLA and not being forced to hand over your genetic information: thank a disabled activist. Better yet, show up for disabled people.

1. Why do you think this was held outside? WH wasn’t accessible. 2. Yes, the 90s weren’t some amazing time of equity, but this wouldn’t get a vote today, let alone persist for two years, which is how long it went back and forth until 3. Disabled people won this with their bodies.

I get online and have to see "fuck cars- let's just have trains" constantly and I'm just. Are ya'll ready? To mask (with quality N95 respirators) in public again? To stop using ANY artificial fragrance scented products in your home? That's the bare minimum for me to be near you on public transport.

Whole "jimothy" thing... I get super nervous about national attention to a specific wild animal, always. But also just the whole "cryptid" label about body differences, and the general celebration of a disabled animal while ya'll continue to not mask or care about disabled humans. Exhausting.

This whole Jimothy thing is really revealing a lot of people's true feelings about the disabled. We're still 'cryptids' to you, aren't we?

I love Jimothy too but I still want to ask you: Do you root for disabled folks, even when we're not adorable, inspiring, cheap, and low maintainance? How deep is your compassion?
