Dr. Abdul El Sayed, Melat Kiros and Darializa Avila Chevalier (the latter two are PhD candidates) examples of academics who successfully went out of the ivory tower and talked to regular people and resonated with them. but you'll never hear of this as an example of higher ed being engaged.

Fetterman did not have a change of heart. He did not have a personality-altering stroke. I don’t even think he was a long con. He went to therapy - for depression, as I recall. Therapy is a bit like confession w/HIPAA. And HIPAA matters for most of us - just not the world government, not like that.

This take is 3-6 months too late, only in that I’ve noticed a marked shift on TikTok, of all places, where top hits on the FYP are people openly admitting their life is a lie or their teeth are falling out or they can’t make rent tomorrow
