I keep thinking about how often the mass layoffs in media, government and big companies, especially women and people of color, will lead to poorer outcomes for years because the people who would point out potential problems or blind spots were deemed non-essential, a "bad fit", and/or too expensive.

You might be wondering how you can support an author when you're short of time, money, energy, etc. But honestly, making your own post about a book helps us! The more people who are talking about a book? Well, that's how buzz begins. You can do that on whatever sites you use.

A week or so ago, I was looking for a couple books by an author from 10 and 15 years ago and my library didn't have them. I requested them via a library form. Today I got a notification in Libby that they purchased both titles. Asking your library for writers' books is an amazing way to support us.

Now is the time to make your thing. Stop motion with LEGO, webcomic, walking sim game, weird Halloween costume, backyard water feature, container garden. This is your sign. Make your thing. Stop waiting. Do it.

One of the best things you can do as an adult is realize that you didn’t actually have to stop drawing, coloring, painting, playing with clay, doing whatever else you loved as a kid. Even if you’re bad at it. Maybe especially if you’re bad at it

This has been said to death but I'll just say it again: if you're in the creative arts space stop calling your art "content". Call it "work"! Calling your art "work" shows it's the result of time and skill. "Content" makes something sound like it has no purpose other than to take up space.
