This is why I had to turn NPR off forever in 2016. They are more attached to their internal script of what politics is supposed to look and sound like than they are to reality. When I happen to hear it now, it sounds exactly, precisely like this.

Working class means people who receive a wage, who must sell their labor to survive because they do not own the means of production. If you mean poor people, say poor people. If you mean people without a college degree, say that. Working Class means something pretty clear already.
