Horrifying: Arizona Democratic congressional candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia was raped by a man after he knocked her out. Another man approached her to do the same. “She began swinging her foot at him. ‘Not even worth it,’ she heard the man say as he moved away.”

Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing.

FYI: Mike Flanagan has read my “Fat Carrie” piece and said I had great insights. We both agree anyone who read it and decided “bully Summer Howell” needs this show despite thinking they don’t, and is a loser. Okay, Mike didn’t say that last part, but I did. Leave her alone. She’s a great Carrie.

Thinking of all the people who don’t know about the film Digger, have never heard of it, seen a trailer, or know of its existence and wishing with all my heart I was one of them. I’ve never been more disinterested in a film in my life.

I know I don’t know much, but I hope more POC, with a heavy emphasis on WOC, submit their films to more film fests. Ask for fee waivers and discounts because a lot of places have those but don’t advertise them. We need those movies y’all worked on so fucking bad. Full stop.

I feel like the debate about what parts of AI are good and what parts are bad should wait until we solve the worldwide crisis caused by the fact that almost of all of its evangelists in both tech and govt are morally, intellectually, and ethically unequipped to oversee it, when not downright evil.

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

Things Gavin Newsom has vetoed this week: -A ban on secretly recording people with smart glasses -A ban on ICE agents working for the state government -A ban on websites selling your data -A bill giving native tribes more say over water rights -A bill protecting transgender healthcare providers

Who the hell do I have to pledge my undying loyalty to at Shudder and/or Vinegar Syndrome to get physical releases for Infested and The Medium?!??!

I wrote this last year and didn’t think anyone would read it (or care). People did read it though. Conversations were had and a few horror people use the word less/have conversations about the use of the word in their work.

Tapping the sign again to remind folks to stop using this very common and deeply embedded word when promoting Halloween season, via @sharai.bsky.social. It is still too pervasive. It is a racial slur. And yes it is harmful: horrorpress.com/editorials/1...

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

I wonder if men are aware of how many potential harassment/abuse instances don’t escalate because women have had to become experts at diffusing the situation without upsetting/aggravating the offending party

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I can’t focus because the world is still the world. So…new thread from your favorite underachiever! 1. Don’t bogart information. If someone starting out asks you about shit, share what you know. That extends to not gatekeeping friends who might also be able to help them.

New @fantasiafestival.com review! Here lie my thoughts on NO REST FOR THE WICKED a new queer folk-horror flick that's gorgeous and sexy and unsettling in all the best ways (also it's sweater porn and god we love sweater porn)

the horrific cornell gang rape case has me thinking about emma sulkowicz who alleged she was raped as a student at columbia in 2014 and never got any justice. it has me thinking about the physical and mental weight young women are forced to carry while their safety is subsumed by male potential.

Emma Sulkowicz carrying around a mattress on the Columbia campus in 2014 to raise awareness of her alleged rape and the university's inaction.

"A terrific fright flick." "The Thing meets The Silence of the Lambs." These are quotes from Stephen King about THE CYCLE, Jordan Downey's Shudder Original nightmare. Stream it October 23 only on Shudder.
