Internet Old Man, sorry. Films, music, games, photography, cats. Frequently fails to quit that politics addiction. Post Rock, Ergo Propter Rock
Remember The News Agents being described in one of the Partridge books as “that podcast with Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and a boy who presumably won a competition.”
I can’t believe that Reform UK turned out to be financed by a bunch of money laundering fronts for Russia. It’s just so unexpected.
The great thing about Britain is you're free to think whatever you want to think and say whatever J. K. Rowling's lawyers permit you to say.

Sure, Jared Leto is a creep with multiple allegations to his name over the course of two decades, but you have to understand that he's also a mediocre actor who's a nightmare to work with and whose movies are critical flops that don't make money.
Non MP, Nigel Farage, complains that he hasn’t been invited to meeting of MPs.
She loved her surgery cone for the first couple days (it made her feel powerful and intimidating) so we got her a courted ruff to look sinister in.
Considering this has been known for years, I’ve a horrible feeling he’s only facing consequences because his last four films were Morbius, Haunted Mansion, Tron Ares and Masters Of The Universe, so the Hollywood Protection Scheme has cut him loose.

Guys who wear heavy bronze armour at all times, including at sea: “why do we keep drowning or being struck by lightning bolts? Must be angry gods”
"Why I'd have found Gollum so much faster than these idiots" - me for the LRB
One consequence of the democratising effect of social media is too many people treat “the statements made and endorsed by a social media platform’s wealthy and powerful owner” with the same seriousness as “a random user with no influence or importance”.
There is simply no ambiguity in what Elon Musk is arguing and endorsing here.
The Odyssey - well, I thought that was all rather marvellous. Nolan’s made his film again, and a very good film it is, too.
If you enjoy learning about random bits of history (ships cats, radium, Robin Hood, Games Workshop, Eurovision) then this is the podcast for you. We've just been spoilt with two episodes on the bounce with a Nottingham connection...
In 1975, three men in a grotty London flat started a games company. It brought D&D to the UK, then redefined wargaming. This week on Untitled History Podcast, it's the history of Games Workshop with @jordansorcery.bsky.social. On Youtube or your pod app of choice! open.spotify.com/episode/3iSn...
To every trans Londoner: this city is yours too. Today we celebrate London Trans+ Pride and reaffirm a simple truth: you should be free to live as yourself, without fear or prejudice. You are loved. You are wanted. You belong here.
When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.
Me: Depeche Mode, what's it like in Perth & Kinross? DM: It's a lot, it's a lot It's a lot, it's a lot It's a lot, it's a lot It's a lot like Fife
You might have heard us say that FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is a dummy. We even made a little GIF to demonstrate his recent failure to enforce a foreign drone ban. So what's the deal with this guy, anyway? We've been covering Carr's exploits for a while now, so let us walk you through it: 🧵
In December, the US government banned foreign consumer drones, claiming that the devices posed a threat to national security. But instead of creating new US consumer drone companies, the ban is incentivizing fake ones instead. Read more from @seanhollister.bsky.social: buff.ly/3jnK87k
Watching this Tom Hiddleston Pompeii thing on D+. My God, the BBC are so much better at this stuff. Still, lots of lovely shots of the place between the treating people like they’re uninterested in history.
Night of the Lepus is widely considered the best film ever made and an entire 16mm print of it, along with instructions on to how to building a working projector, was placed inside both Voyager space probes so that any alien races might one day see it. Carl Sagan lobbied for this.
It's safe to assume that all major LLMs are scraping Bluesky data to train future models. As an open protocol, Bluesky is one of the few sources of fresh human-generated content that anybody can gobble up. So all this is probably going in the models. There are submarines in the Great Lakes.
“Doctor Who’s old hat, it’s had its day, and isn’t culturally relevant anymore.” The Commonwealth Games:
Bizarre. Sylvester McCoy. The King of Great Britain. And Sir Chris Hoy. And a TARDIS. #commonwealthgamesopening
Christopher Nolan adapting Ben Aaronovich: CONFIRMED
Like, I cannot stress this enough: in the Iliad, Achilles fights Scamander, the river god who is also the *river Scamander.* There is no historically accurate way of depicting a bronze age warrior fighting a RIVER which is also a god. "What were Bronze Age anti-river tactics?" Shush.
Paul is talking about universities here, and he's right. Foreign students pay around £44 000/year tuition fees, heavily subsidising UK students, but for some stupid reason, foreign students are counted as immigrants. The UK is destroying the unis to appease a handful of racists.
Take a hugely success story for the U.K. and wilfully destroy it so that the numbers of immigrants look smaller. That’s what this is about.
this has been fascinating to watch unfold this season so far. Short version: the new power units (engine + battery) have a bunch of AI stuff. This is meant to optimise power deployment duting races. except it keeps doing weird shit the drivers can't stop/control. And they are NOT happy.
F1 drivers have become hostages to AI
