After the missile attacks over the past week it's a good time to remind everyone of this. Particularly the zrada of the US attacking Iran and wasting all the interceptors taht should be keeping Ukrainian cities safe.
The theory goes that every Ukrainian political event and therefore any kind of political event can be divided into a venn diagram combination of these three concepts. Hanba means "shame", zrada means "betrayal" or "treason", and peremoha means "victory". They form the following typology.
1/5 Putin cannot win on the front lines, so he has engineered a terrifying new theory of victory. Ukraine’s allies are pathetic cowards and Putin knows it. With his army stalling, he is betting everything on raining ballistic missiles onto Ukrainian cities while the West watches
Blindingly obvious that this is targeted at “degrees we think women get.”
President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v
some words are objectively hurtful and objectively dangerous in a way that passes any but the most gaslighty of tests and it is perfectly fine for a democratically elected government to use its mandate to render them unsayable without consequence

Monique Hawkins, acting chief executive of the3million, said the impact of the Home Office’s retrospective review was devastating for many. "People applied to the EU settlement scheme in good faith...by building their lives in the UK and putting down roots." www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

And why a Ukrainian book makes the empire terrified.

Unfortunately only I and 8 other people played more than 2 sessions of 4E because a D&D game being mechanically sound is anathema to the spirit of D&D as defined by its player base.
4E had pretty extensive Dark Sun support but they turned it into a big ongoing metaplot thing a lot of people disliked so I’m assuming they’re going to roll it back to the 2E default and then only support it infrequently (this is also what they’re doing for Greyhawk)
Canada is in a deadly serious moment unlike anything we have seen in a century. We need political leaders to offer a vision of how respond to the threat while offering ways that our nation can move forward. Claiming that the PM's priority is supporting Trump's war machine is a total falsehood.
The "let's quit NATO" faction have their day. I didn't have much time for them when they mobbed the microphones at NDP conventions. I have less time for these squabbles now as Canada faces an unprecedented threat to our sovereignty. My focus remains on rallying Canadians against the MAGA threat.
Bullshit Charlie. Avi is speaking for many of us who are appalled at Carney's massive increase in military spending. Politics is about priorities...health care, environment, fighting inequality. Not bombs. Canada should be an independent voice for peace and global justice, outside NATO.
I think many Americans commentators still sometimes take threats to Canada too lightly. I believe that they put too much stock in the ability of the Democrats or public opposition to restrain coercion or military action. I think we need to hedge against the (IMO real) possibility that they fail.
The truth is much more brutally unpleasant - you can point to some structural factors, but the big reason for why things turned out this way is that Shit Happens. The past decade has been full of highly contingent events that turned out badly due to luck, stupidity and the malice of a few.
In this week's column, I agree that Canada needs to weild more economic weight with one objective in mind: Beating Trump. (Featuring a @jamellebouie.net shout-out) Gift link in next skeet. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

The schadenfreude I would be feeling if this was real. LMFAO. A train blocking traffic at the Ambassador Bridge 30 minutes before the Gordie Howe Bridge opened.
If someone invades your country you should shoot them, is a pretty basic idea. Only americans would think about it as "well you have to be nice to us so we can unfuck this"
Personally, my standpoint on conventional resistance is that whatever the Democrats or GOP line members may think, if soldiers or armed fighters illegally enter Canada the CAF should shoot them until they die or go home, because it is a sovereign country with an unambiguous right to self defence.
Conventional resistance is valuable if there is an American consensus (particularly a popular one) ambivalent on occupation because it has no cost.
Among other things, "its population is largely Han (a constructed ethnic identity) and thus it's part of China" displays some pretty questionable ethnonationalist assumptions about what constitutes the basis for a state.
