Not so much into modern culture. I am a hermit.

As it turns out, when you Block as many of the loud mouth, peacocking shits on here that just trade smack talking over trivial dumbnassness, Bluesky gets really nice. Honestly, when I look to see who is blocking who and why, what could I possibly be missing out on from these assholes? 😂

Does understanding an eclipse make it any less awe-inspiring? Not according to heliophysicist Lika Guhathakurta. Tomorrow, experience that awe with us as SETI Live follows the Moon's shadow from Iceland to Spain, with scientists on location and live music from the International Space Orchestra. 🧪

“The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in religion or in politics, but it is not the path to knowledge, and there's no place for it in the endeavor of science.” - Carl Sagan

Composite portrait of Carl Sagan smiling broadly, wearing a dark suit, light blue shirt, and gold patterned tie, with his hands in his pockets. He appears to be sitting on a large Earth globe at the bottom of the image, surrounded by floating planets (including Saturn, the Moon, and others) against a colorful starry nebula and space background.

Happy 95th birthday to Sir Roger Penrose. He spent a lifetime exploring the hidden depths of space, time and gravity. In 2020, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for showing that black holes are an inevitable consequence of Einstein’s general relativity. Thank you, Roger.

I am reading the forward and introduction to Bruno Schulz' 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘖𝘧 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 and it occurred to me that we are never going to see any more authors such as this. The current situation is such that we don't really deserve such authors or can even support such literature.

"It's clear that there's a rampant dumbing down in progress in which not knowing things is considered a virtue. I don't throw my hands up in despair, but I do try to indicate that it's a very serious problem." - Carl Sagan

At least with such sites as Facebook, the idiots have found themselves and have stabilized into whatever idiocy is their final personality. Its a reliable state. People are erratic as hell here and treat situations like the latest fandom fixation. Damn. ☹️

So infuriating to watch the continued use of misinformation, spin, and revisionist history to attack a person who has spent his life dedicated to science & public health. My experience: #Fauci thoughtful, kind, and committed to making the world better. MAGA fuelled by lies, hate, and rage.

How badly has #misinformation been normalized? An increasing % of people believe the unhinged idea that the COVID vaccine killed more than COVID. 27% think true‼️ ONLY 39% know definitely false‼️ Reality: COVID killed > 7 million. Vaccine saved millions & severe adverse reaction extremely rare.
