Mark Carney has: -scrapped consumer carbon tax -scrapped oil/gas emissions cap -cut $1.3B from environment Canada -weakened industrial carbon pricing -axed 2 billion trees program -approved 1M barrels/day pipeline -weakened greenwashing laws While this is happening:

Five straight years warmer than anything observed before 2023 (Current record +1.53 degrees warming) en route to 2 degrees by 2030

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

Municipal/local government law is often an afterthought in conversations about regulating AI in Canada. But it has the potential to do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to determining where the physical infrastructures underlying AI systems are located, or whether they get built at all.

Mississauga councillors vote 11-0 to support a one-year pause on data centres. If approved on Sept. 16, this could be the first interim control bylaw in Canada. It’s likely to face appeals. My latest for @nationalobserver.com www.nationalobserver.com/2026/07/29/n...

An environmentalist who grew up at Aamjiwnaang First Nation in Ontario's chemical valley, where hearing alarm warnings is a part of life, is concerned about a proposed west to east oil pipeline. The Nation has lived with the fallout of industry for years.

Aamjiwnaang First Nation has had it’s share of environmental struggles. For decades the community has lived with toxic surroundings from Ontario's chemical valley, where roughly forty percent of Canad...

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.

A photo of the wildfires in canada. Fire rages through forest area with vright orange flame and dark gray smoke.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

So after refusing to confirm or deny if anyone was going, it turns out Carney did send someone to the McCarthy/COINTELPRO redux palooza! I mean why not? Those new pipelines can’t repress their opponents all by themselves! And it’s not like everything is literally on fire!!

The Trump administration is hosting a high-level global meeting on combating “political terrorism” in Washington — a move experts have described as a politically-motivated crackdown on left-wing movements. Canada is one of more than 60 countries attending. Just in from @markramzy.bsky.social:
