Irish Big Mac

40-something Ireland. Twitter refugee I was @MacMiadhachain there, deleted it and left.

The best way for the Irish government to react to this frankly remarkable poll would be to hold a high profile summit this week with all the companies 98% of people do not trust. Really get stuck into tying themselves in the public imagination to these companies nobody trusts.

A screenshot from an RSS reader which shows a headline and subhead from the Sindo. The headline reads "Vast majority of Irish people do not trust AI giants and want governments to regulate them, poll finds". The subhead reads "Sunday Independent / Ireland thinks survey finds only 2pc trust firms behind new technology.

Those with a memory longer than yesterday may remember that the current Saudi war on Yemen started on July 13th when MBS's jets bombed Sana'a airport to stop a government plane landing. Did Kallas condemn that attack on civilian infrastructure in Yemen? She did in her hole.

The Houthi attack on Riyadh’s international airport is an appalling act of terror. There can be no justification for indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. The EU stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

What impact will the public sector pay dispute have on you?  On Wednesday, more than 300,000 workers, including nurses, doctors, teachers and civil servants, are set to walk off the job for 24 hours, with picket lines planned as part of the industrial action. Our Reporter Nicole Gernon explains.

Fórsa General Secretary Kevin Callinan has said public service workers feel they have "no choice" but to strike over pay on Wednesday, adding he predicts lots of industrial action over the winter if an agreement is not reached

If nominated, Andrew Scott would only be the 3rd openly gay actor ever nominated for Best Actor Oscar. If he wins he would be the first to. Actors hiding their sexuality and the discrimination faced, is a central theme to this film. He’s a shoo in to be nominated for it, and hopefully win?

Was lucky enough to see a preview of this tonight (in cinemas end of January) and it totally lives up to the hype - and Andrew is *spectacular*. Stunning performance. And I can't remember the last time I cried so much at the cinema. Bawled my eyes out, ugly wet face floods at numerous points. 🙌😭

Leinster House could be a casualty of public sector strikes next week… no agreement today at the Business Committee on whether to schedule any Dáil sittings, with some in opposition say they will refuse to come in if it means passing pickets of Oireachtas staff. An unusual second meeting now planned

If you went into a bank and asked for a loan, saying you’d put the proceeds into a savings account, they’d think you were a bit cracked. On a macro scale, that’s what Ireland is doing. This week’s column for @thejournal.ie:

€7.8 billion set aside for Ireland’s future in Budget 2027 means we're borrowing to save money

As the dust settles on the budget, isn’t it notable that Ireland is putting billions into long-term funds while borrowing money to pay the bills?
