Bookshelves in Canada, heart in Ireland. Also art, embroidery, travel, languages and social history. Trying to avoid politics, but…
Going through a time of grief, reading Circle of Friends a book I’ve loved for nearly 30 years now. #speirgorm #maevebinchy
In my Ottawa mailbox today: a crate of mangos (mostly spoiled) from Pakistan via Toronto and the new @janecasey.bsky.social book via @kennysbookshop.bsky.social and Galway. At least the book won’t go bad!!
Thankyou so much for your support of my posts here on Bluesky. I had a full breakdown last yr & *really* struggle with executive function due to autism & ADHD but you seem to enjoy my posts which gives me a lift & is helping me recover tbh. Really hope they help on your tricky mental health days 🌿

I need to know how to deter water snakes from a cottage but I don’t want to google and see photos of the snakes I’m hyperventilating about. Hmm. #ottawa
@sarramanning.bsky.social I just finished The Man of Her Dreams. Really neat premise, I wasn’t sure how it was going to end. I quite enjoyed it.
@harvilla.bsky.social Until the White Stripes ep I’d forgotten how much I loved White Blood Cells. I used to blast Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground angstily while writing polo sci essays about Walmartification and Canadian foreign policy and stuff. It helped!
@janecasey.bsky.social Petition for a story where Maeve and Josh have to arrest and question a senior royal? They’d do it so well….
The whole series is discounted *for today only* so pass it on, tell a friend, stock your kindle etc etc but before midnight…
www.theguardian.com/books/2026/j... Exciting news, I loved this book when it came out.
Sequel to The Time Traveler’s Wife to be published this autumn
Audrey Niffenegger’s follow-up to her global bestseller focuses on Alba, the daughter of Henry and Clare, as she negotiates two marriages and various modern-era dystopias

Attempting a short story. As usual I can do characters and setting but not plots. Unless I shamelessly steal. Does anyone want a story that is solely characters doing very little? Is that a genre?
#Ottawa weather update: Bitchin' cold. Although if you commuted and got stranded for 10-20mins by a train or bus, in an thoughtfully designed open air station or shelter, you would already know this. Light snow to appear at 9pm going to early morning. Peaking at midnight. 4cm.
Have spent much of my holidays on a @janecasey.bsky.social binge and I’m obsessed and love Maeve so much. Can’t wait to start the latest and see where she and Derwent end up!

Looking for Irish artists who sell work as prints or reproductions. Suggestions? #speirgorm
@harvilla.bsky.social well just learned that from you that Butlerian jihad is something from Dune and not related to Judith Butler, post-modern theorist. Thanks!
Late to the party, but #badsisters is phenomenal! The acting is top-notch and I feel bad for the actor playing JP because he’s so loathsome people will be scowling at him for years to come. #speirgorm
On 15 March 1939 Hitler and his deputy summoned the Czech President to Hitler’s residence in Berlin and then bullied him to submitting to a German invasion of his country. They drove him to the point of physical collapse, threatening him until he eventually signed his country’s death warrant.
Very worried for Canada right now, a country my family has lived in for 210 years. Will support whichever party has a real plan to diversify the economy, strengthen ties w/Europe and Asia and promote Cdn culture, history and heritage which is NOT THE SAME AS THE USA 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦#canpoli
Very worried for Canada in the face of Trump. More so than yesterday. #canpoli
At work, unable to do much of value. I can now see why Scrooge felt the way he did.
French onion soup is in the oven and I already know this is my new annual tradition.
Feeling festive but also melancholy because I wish I was having boozy parties full of interesting people, holiday snacks and intellectual but not pretentious chat. I have elderly non-intellectual parents and harried friends instead.
Looking for a readable/popular Irish history book, ideally one more focused on society/culture than military battles. Inspired by the wonderful @passportirish.bsky.social by @naomiohreally.bsky.social and Tim McInenerny #booksky #irishsky
Always surprised to see how many fantasy books are in the kids/preteen section! When I was that age in the early 90s they were all about parents divorcing/cancer/surviving a plane crash etc.
Looking for writing advice #booksky. I can create characters and settings but struggle to find things for my characters to DO. Or at least things that aren’t ripoffs of books I like reading. Suggestions to develop plots?
The insane bike towards @allylouks.bsky.social for her PhD is truly depressing, especially the complaints that the words in her abstract are ‘too long’. My dad once read a grad school paper I wrote and asked if they taught me to write so academically. Uh, yes? That’s the point?
