Came to Bluesky forerunners for systems thinking and stuck with this one for kindness, generosity of spirit and disability justice.

Any advice for integrating a new four year old cat with a resident three year old? Both indoor cats. The resident was the runt of the litter and she's small and feisty. The incoming is a very friendly flame point Siamese who has had difficulty with dogs but not cats. Current cat:

Black cat with white spot on her chest and white whiskers sitting on a grey fabric.

Right now we're in a covid surge and the best thing you can do to support other people's precious brains is to stay home if you're sick, test yourself for covid, and if you are unable to stay home wear a mask when you are with others. We have to care for each other better.

Please try to reclaim your precious precious attention, at all costs. Do puzzles. Take walks without a phone. Dear god, try to read, almost anything that isn’t a manifesto will really do. You are going to need your brain.

This comment section is so disappointing! Kids, especially babies, make noise, and libraries are really the only third space that exists where you can be with your kids indoors without paying. If libraries are only accessible to silent kids you'd lose a whole bunch of patrons.

Re: kids making noise in libraries. Sure, it can be annoying. But that is one of the prices you pay for having working libraries with employed librarians and kids who grow up to love reading and love libraries. A library as quiet as a fly on a feather duster is a dead library.

Though we're blessedly on a break from the smoky air, to be told not to use your stove at the same time as you're warned to cook all your vegetables, during school break when there's just been a dangerous heat dome, is pretty grim.

Florida folks: If you have O- blood and are of African or African American descent, OneBlood is searching for donors who have a rare antigen that matches with a teenager with sickle cell disease who needs 50 units of blood so she can have a bone marrow transplant.

Looking for guidance from an advocacy group for blind musicians or from a blind singer about the best strategy for inclusion in a choral work that includes aleatoric sections. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

We often go visit this little pond in a park nearby. The killdeer pair recently returned and sometimes there's an interesting raptor. This time, however, we stumbled upon a bacchanalian riot of an extraordinary number of massive toads. Like an unexpected brawl at your usually empty local pub.

A new study finds that US COVID deaths were undercounted by nearly 20%. While COVID revisionists and antivaxxers are trying to con people into thinking governments did too much, the data says the opposite: Governments didn’t implement public health measures effectively enough to save more lives.

So many of us advocates have been calling for prioritizing disabled voices in these debates and policy proposals. What we hear are the voices of those who, in their legitimate and understandable wish to limit suffering at the very end of life, are willing to disregard or downplay the impact on us.

I feel sick watching the debate on the Assisted Dying Bill in the Scottish Parliament. My brother has complex disabilities. As so many disabled people and disability organisations have said, this bill would put him and them at risk. I hope so deeply that MSPs reject it.

Because you never know if you don't ask, I'm looking for a composition teacher who wants to learn nonviolent communication. NVC is an awareness tool shaped like a communication technique. It can help with understanding yourself and others, decreasing the duration of conflict, living your values etc.

Sometimes things have been bad for months and months and then all in one day there is an ice storm so all the trees are magical, and then: the first snowdrops of the season!

What if Indianapolis was the rubric for all state capitals? Mississippolis, Iowapolis, Idahopolis, Californipolis, Nevadapolis, Oklahomapolis, Marylapolis, Delawapolis, Washingtopolis, Alaskapolis, Louisiapolis, North Dakotapolis, Texapolis, etc.

Fellow #MCAS friends, do you perceive an intensification of cosmetic scents in the past year or two? It seems not that people are wearing more scent or using more scented products but that the products themselves are more strongly scented, even just hand soap that previously was more muted.

When I was diagnosed with ME/CFS it was still the era of people calling it yuppy flu, perhaps because it was so hard to get a diagnosis and only those with deep pockets were taken seriously. I see this assumption repeating with long COVID, that it is a made up term for rich kids to be lazy. Not true

New research finds that kids experiencing food insecurity etc are more likely to have Long Covid jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Another great article from @juliametraux.bsky.social. I think, when people (including @jamellebouie.net) get weird about masks or requests to mask, it says that they have not done the work of hanging out with the great diversity of disabled people and really listening to them about accessibility.

Wrote about how disappointing it is that Jon Stewart punched down on people masking at @motherjones.com, when people should mind their own business and leave mask wearers be. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

At urgent care today I saw in the wild a couple, the wife had a mask on and the husband at first glance did not, until it became clear he had the ear loops on but the mask was above his eyes almost on the very top of his head. No judgement, just confusion.

"Arnulfo" shares, "At this time of year it is very difficult to do this work. We work in freezing temps. On rainy days the ladders get very slippery. The work required to prune apple trees is very demanding and the low piece rate we make doesn't cover our expenses." #WeFeedYou

It really gets me down that every time I pick up a City Magazine there are so few non-white faces that if you came from out of town and picked it up you'd think Rochester had regressed 100 years. This time I got to page 40, and even then it's an ad.

How shameful that at a time when political attention is so needed to deal with rising fascism, climate chaos, the continuing affects of the pandemic etc, the UK government has wasted funding and energy meddling in the WI and girl guides membership guidelines.
