My comments do not reflect the opinion of my employer, and my employer's public statements do not reflect my opinions. Reclaiming EM dashes from the slop machine one post at a time .

My taxes pay for a social security system it is rapidly looking like I will never be able to draw on. My taxes pay for M1 Abrams I will never be able to drive. They pay the salaries of congressional representatives that don't even give me the time of day. I would prefer a grocery store.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

It'll also be a very good thing to remind the Democratic Party why it is so often said that the southern black vote is the base of the party. Governor's mansions and state senate seats across the south are also up for grabs if this momentum continues.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com · 4d ago

STAY TUNED ON THIS Republicans may have poked the bear. They used gerrymandering to weaken Black voting power. Instead, new data suggests they helped drive higher Black voter turnout across parts of the South. 1/2

Tell me you understand nothing about data centers and the IT industry without telling me that. Data centers create maybe 10 local jobs. Construction is a travelling contract crew, most systems management is remote, the HVAC and technical stuff is also traveling contractors. Help desk is offshore

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

Once again tapping the sign that says that there are single digit trans perpetrators of mass shootings over the last decade. Not single digit percent, single digit flat. The homocide rate is likewise significantly lower than the national average or any other single demographic.

Alejandra Caraballo@esqueer.net · 2w ago

This MF is responsible for more deaths than there are trans people in the United States. He's putting up Hitler numbers. So maybe he should shut up before spouting lies like this.

"The obvious reality is that giving rage-inducing hormones to mentally unstable people will cause a major increase in murder.
Statistically, trans and trans-driven (eg Charlie Kirk's killer) homicide rates are more than triple that of the general population."

I want to see a depiction of the Odyssey where this man is playing Odysseus and everybody else is genderbent. But like in the Greek style, where the character hasn't changed, it's just the person playing the character is not the gender of the character.

troyliss@troyliss.bsky.social · 3w ago

The only good thing to come out of the dipshit Odyssey discourse is that at one point I commented “if we’re worried about accuracy, then Jason Mantzoukas should be playing Odysseus,” and now I can’t get it out of my head 😄

Impressively-Greek-looking Mantzoukas with long, wild hair and crazy beard, wearing a leather jacket and laughing at something off-camera.

Makes me wonder how much power it uses to do that. And given this is Germany, how much of that power is natural gas / Polish coal generated. Its more than likely that this plant is a net negative and is just greenwashing.

Wow, removing 150 tonnes of CO₂ per year out of thin air! That's a time machine that takes a year to bring us back to an atmosphere we had 0.1 second ago (i.e., less time than it took to read this post).

Those potatoes and that corn dog look and sound amazing. I know you don't typically eat that entire thing when you go because you share it with friends who all want to try the crazy food, but I would eat those potatoes on my own. I can already tell they are going to be amazing.

TODAY IS THE DAY! Every year for my entire life I've looked forward to the day the new Minnesota State Fair foods get announced, and it's TODAY! I don't even get to go to the state fair anymore because I live so far away, but I still look forward to this announcement: www.mnstatefair.org/new/food

Our refrigerator and freezer have been running off of our car for 36 hrs now. That used 17% of the battery. It's good for a couple more days before it could use a recharge, should we still be out. EVs are more than mobility. They are also resilience.

The people who say that women can never compete with men are idiots. They also seem to ignore a significant amount of literature that consistently shows that women have an edge on men in endurance activities, especially water-related ones.

We're constantly told that women can never compete with men and yet Kelsey Pfendler is about to set the record for the fastest solo row from California to Hawaii, beating the men's record by a full week. What an incredible feat of athleticism, endurance, and grit.

A promotional graphic featuring a photograph of a woman, Kelsey Pfendler, rowing a specialized ocean rowboat alone on open water under an overcast sky. The white boat is designed for long distances, featuring enclosed cabins at the bow and stern, solar panels on the rear cabin, and various mounted navigational antennas. The hull is decorated with vibrant pink, purple, and blue swirling wave graphics.
Several sponsor logos are visible along the side of the boat, including Pasha Hawaii, Hatch River Expeditions, Concept2, Güntner, and the cursive Lily logo near the stern.

The first thing I want to see in November is an expansion of the House. Expanding the House to ensure that each representative only represents at most 400k would make the house more resistant to gerrymandering and allow more people to engage with the systems that govern thier lives.

Do you think if we elect enough DSA members in place of democratic institution members, the U.S. might win a World Cup? I mean, it's worked for a bunch of the cities that have elected DSA members, so... it's worth a shot. And as a happy accident we will get rid of the enablers not fighting for us.

Jaime Harrison@jaimeharrison.bsky.social · last mo.

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.
