Evil begins when you treat People as Things

Multiple things are true here. This is a fascist, authoritarian administration. It has not yet fully consolidated power. Some of its efforts to do so have been frustrated. Trump is a doddering, confused egomaniac who started an unpopular war that's costing everyday people a lot of money.

The demagoguery doesn't work as well when people are paying high gas prices. The GOP is in bad shape ahead of the midterms. This is going to be a time of desperate Trumpian shenanigans because, as y'all may recall, they don't believe in fair fights and never admit to losing anything.

Some people, and I don't just mean Trump, have been moving through the world as though they would never face a potential consequence for any choice ever again, because they never planned on losing power. That means they think they can't afford to lose now. There are a lot of desperate moves ahead.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

There is absolutely no viable path forward for this country that doesn’t hinge on extreme accountability for everyone involved in this administration. They’re going to whine about politicization and credulous media types will echo them, but the thing is, they’ve committed tons of obvious crimes!

I do not think an exec branch led by a man who thinks he is entitled to treat federal agents as an arm of his firm, refers to Somali Americans as “garbage” and has said racist things specifically about Omar is capable of neutrally applying the law to her, to put it mildly apnews.com/article/ilha...

Reminder that HSI should be wholly abolished and none of its staff kept. Their mission is to investigate "the illegal movement of people, goods, money, contraband, weapons and sensitive technology." They're just letting that happen, too busy doing this and guarding the reflecting pool Trump ruined.

Federal agents search Rep. Ilhan Omar's home as part of a criminal investigation, AP sources say

Federal agents have searched Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home as part of a criminal investigation. That’s according to people familiar with the matter.

apnews.com

Some of the escalations we're seeing, including the attack on Ilhan Omar's home (I will not pretend this act was "investigatory"), are desperate acts. But we must remember that desperate people can be very dangerous. A domestic abuse victim, for example, is in the most danger when trying to leave.

It's very significant that the raid against Omar was conducted by HSI. That means that whatever justified the warrant isn't related to corruption or misconduct. They're specifically looking for evidence that she committed immigration fraud so they can denaturalize and deport her.

yknow, one thing about this massive bot farm outtage that's kinda made me feel optimistic, is just... how inorganic this massive swing towards the right we've all had to endure over the last decade is. It's all fucking fake, it was fake from the start, and we know how to kill it

People are discussing how Halloween candy is so terrible these days. A reminder that alot of the candy we eat is made with women’s prison labor. Russell Stover’s factory in Kansas busses in 150 women a day via a convict leasing program to staff their candy factory.

Russell Stover has begun using prison labor to make candy in
Kansas
A Russell Stover candy factory in Kansas has begun hiring incarcerated workers through a work release program, Eoin Higgins reports in his newsletter, The Flashpoint. About 150 women are bussed in from the Topeka Correctional Facility and paid $14 an hour, but the prison keeps some of their wages for room and board, taxes, transportation, and other expenses. When all is said and done, they take home less than $6 per hour. These deductions are high, but elsewhere in the country, they're even higher: In our May series on prison

an interesting and, imo, important read. what does capitalism begin to consume (and/or accelerate its existing consumption of) as it exhausts material avenues for expansion? how do we (as workers, as storytellers) push back?

A screenshot of a section of the article reading: "So when you drink a few Monsters or Red Bulls, you’re still getting physically and mentally fatigued; your brain just doesn’t know it yet. It’s as if, instead of using an oven mitt, you just shot your hand full of Novocaine before grabbing a hot pan. The harm is still there. And in economic terms, this means that every time you work a long shift with chemical assistance, you’re not just selling your working hours to the boss. You’re also degrading the quality of life you’ll experience during your non-working hours, because that’s when the fatigue catches up to you, and you feel, to use the scientific term, like dogshit." The last one and a half sentences are highlighted.

Around the world, people are pumping themselves full of caffeine, amphetamines, and other performance-enhancing drugs just to survive their working hours. This isn’t sustainable. www.currentaffairs.org/news/a-socie...

Not to mention that we could’ve gotten plenty of diesel fuel-and cheaper, too-without helping Putin kill innocent Ukrainians. But now, the stain of their blood will forever remain on the hands of Trump and his soulless, hypocritical acolytes in the Republican party May they rot in hell
