I agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.

That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. Samuel Moore@samuelmoore.org · 2w agoOne reason I feel people find AI useful for brainstorming or problem-solving is that it's increasingly rare to find the time/space to do this with others, but when we do it's amazingly generative and productive. So AI feels like a magic trick when it's actually a cheap stand-in for getting together.
Literacy is not an individual skill. Literacy is a public infrastructure.
