Awkward conversation for Luxon to have with his list MPs who he doesn’t think should be in Parliament. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...
Luxon’s call to hold referendum on MMP appears to surprise colleagues
But Labour leader Chris Hipkins said it’s Christopher Luxon’s leadership, not the MMP system, that needs to change.
stuff.co.nz
MMP but all the minor parties have to be in one party and run internal primaries (using STV)
The worst thing about Luxo's referendum brainfart is that all the electoral system cranks are coming out to advocate for abstruse nonsense like MMP-with-STV-electorates again
Question for the Prime Minister: do you stand by all your statements, including the one about your coalition partners and fellow ministers being yahoos and numpties?
Question for the Foreign Minister and/or Deputy Prime Minister: are you a yahoo or a numpty?
Marama Davidson said 'there was an easier way than overhauling the entire electoral system. “Sack him from Cabinet and bring forward the election“.' (paywalled) #NzPol
Luxon says he wants MMP referendum if re-elected
Winston Peters has moved immediately to rule out such a move.

I'm sorry I can't get over "trying to do a Tyranny of the Majority from 30%"
So Winston is “some yahoo” and David Seymour is the “numpty” right?
He....... he knows he's the Prime Minister right?!
Weird how Ardern and Clark managed to keep these yahoos and numpties under control
He....... he knows he's the Prime Minister right?!
Winston sucks more than any other living MP but he at least understands what's at stake
Pure desperation Never seen a man more salty about the fact that real voters don't rate him and his achievements as much as he rates himself www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...
Luxon says he wants MMP referendum if re-elected
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says he would hold an MMP referendum if re-elected.

Voters have lost the confidence of the government. Time to dissolve the people and elect another
Christopher Luxon is so bad at his job that when the biggest liability to his government is in trouble, he hands him an opportunity to be objectively correct about something.
Winston sucks more than any other living MP but he at least understands what's at stake
Rumours that Luxo is planning a flag referendum are as yet unconfirmed
This has the same vibes as the flag referendum since he clearly has no idea what would be the alternative #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Christopher Luxon will call referendum on MMP voting system if elected back into power
The Prime Minister says he will call a referendum on the country's MMP voting system if he's back in power after the November election.

Read this and weep. And maybe vote. Brilliant charts again (and always) from @musicalchairs.bsky.social
Regular viewers will know that I had serious doubts about the 'recovery' well before Trump decided to cause global chaos (and trading opportunities for his buddies). Suffice to say, today's unemployment data is GRIM! Let's have a look... Unemployment rate vs the guesses of clueless ghouls. [🧵 1/n]
Thing about this is it is't hypocrisy (which is trivial anyway) It isn't even insincerity (which is not) It's just another example of how he had genuinely no fuckin idea of the job of PM that he thought "I will simply fly commercial" was viable in a job that requires him to travel constantly
This has aged worse than sour milk. "Luxon rejected suggestions that a Defence Force flight allowed greater flexibility." #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
We are fast coming up on two years since Luxon first said the economy was turning a corner. At this point, I’m beginning to wonder if Luxon even knows what a corner is.
National backs its policies as unemployment rises to 11-year high
How many oppo MPs can get themselves ejected by the Speaker for questioning the Speaker's willingness to selectively punish opposition MPs do you reckon
Unemployment hits 11-year high under Luxon's Government. 49,000 more New Zealanders are out of work than when this Government took office, according to figures released by Stats NZ this morning showing 171,000 people unemployed and actively looking for work.
Free & open for all: Unemployment rate up to 11-year high of 5.6%; Underutilisation rate up to 13-year high of 13.8%; Youth underutilisation up to 37% of workforce; Yet 111,000 work visas were granted & the RBNZ hiked to take 'heat' out of the economy. #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
Unemployment worse than forecast & real wages fall
Unemployment rate up to 11-year high of 5.6%; Underutilisation rate up to 13-year high of 13.8%; Youth underutilisation up by 21,500 in a year to 37% of youth workforce; Yet 111,000 work visas granted

Sauce. This was the solution considered. Give me strength.
As schools reported throwing out nearly one in three Compass lunches late last year, the Ministry of Education looked into adding sauce to make the meals more appealing but shelved the idea over cost.
The first 6 months of 2026 saw 1,411 businesses liquidated, up from 1,296 last year and putting NZ on track for the worst year in almost two decades. 97% of NZ businesses are SMEs: tradies, cafés, retailers and family businesses doing the heavy lifting. This is who Luxon is telling to grow up.
6 months - that’s how many businesses have been liquidated. Up on 1296 for the same period last year. But don’t worry, this is the party of “grow up businesses”
If your desire and ability to exercise state power is predicated on the state exercising racism, then yes - you are the baddies.

Nicola Willis and Mark Mitchell suggested this morning that firing Winston Peters would bring down the Government. www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...
Oh, well then, I guess we’ve no choice but to let the foreign minister keep doing racism. Wouldn’t want to be principled, let alone call Winston’s bluff. Better things aren’t possible

In which case the fault for that lies squarely with Luxon and National for negotiating such poor coalition agreements and spending 3 years letting Peters/Jones/Seymour say and do whatever the fuck they like #nzpol
