Worth pointing out that - for an administration always banging on about merit - that's what the scores are. If the intent is to allow more discretion of how $$ is allocated, e.g. based on geography, the NIH had mechanisms to factor that into funding with its broad definitions of diversity.

I heard from several sources yesterday that NIH is planning to release a Request for Information (RFI) that apparently will include this: Scores and percentiles for NIH grant applications will not be shared with applicants although they will be provided to NIH program officers and staff. 1/3

Bruh - this is not a test for healthy people. My mom took them to track her cognitive function after a stroke. Attention, memory, executive control, orientation, language. Once you need a MoCA, you should not have launch codes

Tragic. Please pass this along to US Chairs and Deans, and consider it when you sit on promotion committees. This, combined with the review backlog, is dire - especially for our early career researchers.

The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted. What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards. Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
