I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. OVERNIGHT BREAKING NEWS: A federal judge has DECLINED to stop the Trump admin from requiring that chronically ill Medicaid patients prove that they are physically unable to work in order to keep their insurance. The underlying case could still block the policy before the Jan. 1 implementation date.
Increasingly, Soylent Green serves as one of the best metaphors for AI -- it's taking all that we are, as people, chumming it up, and feeding the slurry back to us. We're told that we need it, it's nutritious, it'll save the world, even as it damns it and us.

The sea coloring in Nolan's The Odyssey have been criticized for being on the blue end of the spectrum rather than "wine-dark." This skips around the alternative hypothesis, that a third type of wine, a Blue to go with the Reds and White, was lost in the bronze age collapse and never rediscovered.

On July 20, Claude Fable and Levent Alpöge found a counterexample to the Jacobian conjecture: a polynomial mapping ℝ³→ℝ³ with constant Jacobian determinant -2 that does 𝒏𝒐𝒕 have a polynomial inverse. But what does that look like? See for yourself! 🧮 kyleormsby.github.io/jacobian-cou...

This video clip of a swan landing on a lake is best enjoyed with AUDIO ON. Mute swans (Cygnus olor) are among the heaviest flying birds & require a long runway, which means we get the majestic approach, a few furious moments of webbed feet slapping on water, then the majestic splashdown.

#iTeachPhysics I thought of a potentially interesting method of getting data on how HS physics students are getting help (with GenAI etc) early in the year. Suvat is an acronym for kinematics equations used in a lot of places, but less often where I am. Suvat is also a name (Turkish origin) 1/3
