Very sad to hear that Margaret Hamilton has passed away. Here's a short thread about her role in the Apollo mission, and her lesser-known work on the simulations that led to the discovery of Chaos Theory. 🧪 👩‍🔬 ⚛️

Margaret Hamilton, a pioneer of software engineering who led NASA's in-flight software team for the Apollo mission, was born #OTD in 1936. 🧪 🔭 👩‍🔬 Image: NASA

A black and white photo of Margaret Hamilton standing next to a stack of printouts, the code that she and her team wrote for the Apollo Lunar Module. She is wearing a short, striped dress and sandals. Hamilton has long hair past her shoulders and wears glasses. She is looking at the stack of code, which is taller than her, smiling and steadying it with her hands.

This is a difficult read, but important and well worth it. Another immensely insightful and powerful piece by my friend & colleague @erinblondeau.bsky.social: From Cornell to Canadian Hockey: How men learn to dehumanize women: ricochet.media/justice/from...

"The former dean said dual practice will harm patients by allowing those who can afford private care to jump to the front of the line, rather than providing care to the sickest first. This they stressed, is what the CANADA HEALTH ACT was designed to PREVENT" www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/41efc64...

Also, THEY WON'T. We've seen pretty clearly that men will talk a big game about being "protectors" but don't even have the courage to denounce a friend via text in a group chat. And the state killed Eileen Wuornos. So, y'all can stop acting like we're actually putting these men's life in danger.
