Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.
1/ Trump signed 50% tariffs on Canada today under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. Worth walking through the legal mechanics, the USMCA leverage play behind it, and what it costs.
Here's the thing: these programs were created for a reason. It shouldn't take thousands sick and scores hospitalized to understand why public health programs are needed. But, alas, we seem determined to touch the stove twice to remember how it feels to be burned.

Yes, wildfire smoke and snowstorms do sometimes come from Canada. But when was the last time you read the headline "cool breeze from Canada gives relief from punishing heat wave" in the US media?
We are closing in on $70 BILLION dollars that Americans have had to pay in extra fuel costs since Feb 28 due to Trump's war on Iran. For context, the entirety of all federal support for research (thru NIH, NSF etc) costs $65B per year. A war for nothing but waste. iranwarcost.watson.brown.edu
