A gracious concession: “I want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election…

The AP has also called the #MI13 Democratic primary for state Rep. Donavan McKinney, who defeats incumbent Shri Thanedar. McKinney is a progressive but likely appealed to many voters who wanted Detroit to have a Black congressman again.
After a long night of vote-counting in a tighter-than-expected race, the AP has called the #MIsen Democratic primary for progressive Abdul El-Sayed. He defeats Rep. Haley Stevens 48.5–47.%.
13 points is an awful lot.
What is truly "shocking" about the polling miss in Michigan is that it is completely average for a primary "The expected error on the margin between two primary candidates in a race for governor or U.S. Senate is a whopping 13.0 points." blog.fiftyplusone.news/p/2026-texas...
My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.
“It’s not obvious at all that Rubio has provided any value-added over any other lapdog who would have occupied his position in his stead. Like everyone else, he has functioned as a yes man for Trump. Indeed, he has failed in both of his foreign policy roles.” - @dandrezner.bsky.social
Marco Rubio is ostensibly neglecting his State Department duties to stay close to Trump and focus on the important stuff… except for the most important foreign policy quagmire of the day. danieldrezner.substack.com/p/why-isnt-m...
bluesky life hack: before you post about being bluesky-mobbed, or even let yourself *feel* like you're being bluesky mobbed, check your ratio. 100 nasty replies and 20 nasty QTs feels bad! You notice it! But if you've also gotten 2k likes and 600 regular RTs, you haven't found The Bluesky Problem.
"The thing is, Marco Rubio is not the Assistant Secretary of State for Latin America;he’s the president’s chief foreign policy advisor. He is supposed to be running the interagency policy process as well as the StateDepartment. And it’s becoming increasingly clear that he’s not running a damn thing."

Yeah I mean I think you'd have to consider Burgum one of Trump's most "normal" appointees and Pirro one of the least, and yet...
And Doug Burgum makes a determined push to rise up the crowed ranks of the corrupt henchflunkies.
Oh no I sure hope that person doesn’t find this link. danieldrezner.substack.com/p/why-isnt-m...
Why Isn't Marco Rubio Doing His Job?
The allegedly competent Trump advisor sure seems to be avoiding giving advice on the most important foreign policy issue of the day.

I know someone who works for the State Dept, highly educated, speaks several languages, and they have this person scanning social media for insulting things said about Marco.

This plane landed in Myanmar about three hours ago. This is the third ICE flight to Myanmar this year. Burmese deportees in 2025 were immediately sent to a torture facility next to the airport, according to Myanmar Now. Weeks later, not all of them had emerged.
This likely ICE flight operated by Journey Aviation has taken off and appears to heading for an Asia removal. In May, this aircraft deported people to Myanmar.

i know votes are still being counted but the more i look at this michigan senate map the more it becomes clear that it kind of looks like a mitten
One thing people should notice, Dems are turning out in almost 2X the numbers of GOP in Michigan so far for this
Whoever ends up winning the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan, I hope with little expectation that those who took seriously polls showing a rout for El-Sayed will think twice about relying on questionable and/or partisan polls.
Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe
Well, I mean, it was nonsense

Maybe this is right, I dunno. But overperforming in Shiawassee county (Thomas Dewey’s home, btw) & other small Repub counties means nothing if he’s overperforming in the big Dem counties. 150 vote margin for her in Shiawassee would get swamped by 15,000 margin in Kent.
From Zachary Donnini: “This is narrowing at a rapid rate and will come down to Wayne. Stevens is vastly outperforming expectations across a lot of whiter, less urban areas. El-Sayed exceeding his targets in Kent, Washtenaw, and Oakland. Stevens exceeding elsewhere.”
this man went from Lululemon + some DUI/simple assault, nothing on his CV, to White House and Congress; I'm thinking he's feeling a bit too confident about his chances of getting through this
TAPPER: One of the files you released was an image of your daughter naked. It was available for a day before it was removed. Your ex-wife's attorney says it could quality as CSAM. That's shockingly reckless behavior MAX MILLER: I wouldn't say it's shockingly reckless. There was no genitalia exposed
Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion
This is a weird form of gaslighting MAGA is very fond of: They act like the preservation of core American traditions and norms that have been around for centuries is actually some wacky novelty. I guess because they want to pose as “conservatives” rather than the radicals they are.
Senator Banks calls the Supreme Court’s decision not to change the law on birthright citizenship “the worst Supreme Court decision of my lifetime.” Keep in mind that he was born and lived his entire life under the legal interpretation of the 14th Amendment the Court kept in place.
I think it’ll be a short night. If she got blown out in the early vote in Saginaw County it probably won’t be close. Let’s see a few more complete sets of votes but I think it’s over.
Michigan U.S. Senate Democratic Primary Saginaw County EV: 🟣 Abdul El-Sayed – 405 (59.2%) 🟠 Haley Stevens – 269 (39.3%)
