The D stands for Disappointment

@jenaciousd.bsky.social

Midlife crisis, hyperfixations, cats, watercolours. Chronic fatigue and depression / anxiety. I need a nice cup of tea and a hug. PhD student in microfluidics with the OU.

I still despise coding with all of my withered Gen X heart. I will begrudgingly admit to feeling a small rush of satisfaction when something works, even when that something is reproducing a paper that’s older than my sister (so I can go on and apply it to my work). More pencil & paper maths, pls.

Gouache has no right being so very different from watercolour. It’s so much easier until it’s so much harder. However. I shall persist and eventually have a “My First Gouache Painting” to which I’ll compare all future ones. Or I’ll donate it to the blue bin. It’s 50/50 right now.

A partly-painted, um, painting of a European robin. Its chest is blobby shades of orange, its head looks furry rather than feathery, and its back Needs Work.

This is very accurately known as “the ugly stage”.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.

I’m putting together a playlist of music Niece might like, starting with stuff we have in common & thinking about what Sister might not have played. The overlaps with me are Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, RHCP, and Billy Joel. Any suggestions from ppl less into the Loud Heavy Stuff would be great 😁

100 years ago they were all children, but their eventual jobs: Engineer (motorbikes): could do this if someone showed me (would love it). Admin / office person (at the motorbike place): could do this (wouldn’t want to). Something in insurance x2: could do this (wouldn’t want to).

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

Mornin'. An utterly glorious, joyous piece of noise, originally from Reddit, which still brings me stupid amounts of pleasure several years after it first appeared. Oh, I like this one...😎
