Hello! My name is Chris Gilmer-Hill. I’m proud to be a lifelong Detroiter, democratic socialist, environmental justice champion, and union member, and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for State House here in district 8, covering parts of Detroit, Ferndale, & Pleasant Ridge!

Next year is huge for DSA’s electoral work, and we need National Electoral Commission leadership that is committed to mass politics and grounded in real organizing to win BIG for socialism 🌹 Vote Groundwork for NEC Steering to build the party, elect socialist cadre, and win at all levels! 🪴
trump (after zohran mamdani charms him for 5 minutes): “we’re looking very strongly at implementing socialism, many people are saying it. they love redistribution of wealth and you’re hearing it more and more. there’s a term, they call it, a centrally planned economy. it’s an old fashioned term”

DSA endorsee Denzel McCampbell won his primary for Detroit City Council! 🎊 “Do you want a city government that works for developers and the wealthiest Detroiters? Or do we need working class elected representatives who understand us and will fight for us?” 😤 electoral.dsausa.org?p=1251 Stats 👇👇👇

STEWART: “I feel like I’m watching something so self-evidently inhumane and horrific and to be told I have to shut up because I risk the Jewish state by speaking out? I would say the opposite — they’re putting the likelihood of a surviving Jewish state much more at risk.”
This is the kind of gap between rank and file voters and the party establishment that will likely cause some real havoc and disruption in the party's politics and primaries. In a different way, it's what gave rise to Trump in GOP.
It seems the pro-Israel consensus among Democrats is well and truly dead at this point. Dem primary voters prefer candidates who refuse to travel to Israel (by net +45%) and back a bill to end military aid to Israel (by net +61%). www.filesforprogress.org/datasets/202...
Wealthy CEOs want to hide how much they make. The SEC hosted a roundtable laying the groundwork to do their bidding. They call it 'simplification.' We call it hiding the truth about corporate greed.
Last weekend, we joined @socialists.nyc volunteer appreciation day to celebrate the thousands of members—old and new—who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and organized day after day for our victory in the primary. Onward to November and beyond.
The left-most candidate – who was endorsed by AOC, Bernie and the Working Families Party – won the congressional primary, and the NYT is spinning it as a loss for Mamdani’s politics. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/u...

The organization that molded the candidacy & platform for the very candidate you’re supporting is “awful”? The political organization that numbers over 10k members across the city & is the infrastructure for his campaign is “awful”? If mamdani & his campaign are the path forward, so is DSA.
And it also feels like some folks have decided to hate Mamdani because of his association with DSA and are looking for any little bit of info to confirm that bias. And I agree that the DSA is an awful, problematic organization. But there are much larger issues at stake in this election.
I truly hope left & prog candidates can ride the Zohran wave and boot centrists from the party, & it is also imperative that we beat the drum that a healthy DSA chapter was an essential ingredient in forming who Zohran is & is inextricable at every level from his campaign’s success t.co/GftxUKQ4Rq
people come up with all kinds of fanciful math to justify billionaires' wealth but imo present political moment demonstrates conclusively that we need to tax billionaires at whatever rate will keep them focused on their own fucking business rather than our Medicaid and pediatric cancer research
My statement on Donald Trump's threat to deport me and his praise for Eric Adams, who the President "helped out" of legal accountability.
Trump threatens to arrest Mamdani and then adds, "a lot of people are saying he's here illegally"
This should put to bed the idea that passing and implementing populist policies isn’t good politics. They need to be well administered, publicized, and the effects clearly demonstrated. Oh and take the damn credit loudly and proudly !
It's insane how much more popular NYC's congestion pricing got when it was implemented and people started actually seeing it work
Hakeem Jeffries is a despicable piece of shit full stop. He deserves nothing less than full public humiliation and to leave office in disgrace
Hakeem Jeffries on Mamdani: "'Globalizing the intifada' by way of example is not an acceptable phrasing. He's gonna have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward."
We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent. Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.
Attacks on Muslims flood mainstream after Mamdani win

Ok, then I don’t want to hear another fucking word about how Rashida should have publicly endorsed Kamala.
Today, Gov. Hochul explicitly declined to endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor despite his victory in the Democratic primary. She also mistakenly mispronounced his name both times she said it as "Mandami" (like Cuomo, but likely without the malice) www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

On the heels of Tuesday’s historic election of a democratic socialist who ran on taxing the rich to pay for public goods, we’re out in force in Lansing, MI to get a constitutional amendment to tax the rich to pay for our public schools. Tax the rich, fund our schools, take back our democracy 🗳️✊
Not only is Zohran a homegrown, DSA organizer who built up his political chops through Bernie, his campaign achieved a massive feat, “Mamdani did better with voters of color than with white voters... In this, he reversed nearly 30 years of anti-materialist political science theories.”
