Love how this dude discovered the cheat codes of "what if I listened to constituents" and "what if I modeled good behavior" and "maybe I behave like a normal person should." These are apparently dark secrets that have been hidden from other politicians.
I'm listening, I'm learning. Safety first, NYC.
anyone who thinks ADHD is made up to sell pills or whatever should be forced to spend 8 hours alone with me in a car while I am fully unmedicated. let's see how you really feel after that
Ye gods, this has been reshared in some form more than NINE HUNDRED TIMES. Bless you all. Still nothing more than tentative nibbles, sadly. Please keep it up; I can't share more details, but it's looking like the time is increasingly closer. We would love to be able to let him know while he's still
FRIENDS IN THE NYC AREA: Okay, this is a tough one, but please bear with me. My wife's lifelong friend has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is desperately seeking a home for his two cats when that time comes. The elder, Wally, is something like 13 years old and DELIGHTFULLY dim. The younger, Doris,

The "race realist" who deliberately instigated and fuelled the pile on that led Jason Arday to take his own life is trying to centre himself in the ongoing coverage. Let's not do that, by not reposting anything to do with him, and not mentioning his name — not even in outrage. Damnatio memoriae.
Wait, so everyone is twelve theory already had a name?
A van pulling up outside, signage saying "Professional Chimney Sweep". Really resisting urge to ask him for a handshake.
Getting really bloody sick of saying NO to cookie data then having to scroll through sometimes mile-long mazes to untick 'legitimate interest' boxes because I ACTUALLY MEANT NO. 😑 Ticking no cookies shouldn't mean they still sell my data to 82+ mystery vendors unless I put more time into my no.
Think I’m going to start a nice easily-mutable thread to pop all the daily puzzle game shenanigans in, starting now:
SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:
We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility

Vernor Vinge had a scene in his 2006 book Rainbow’s End where they were doing this to an entire library. Just placed the machines in the library, locked the doors, and off they went. The end of books, the end of libraries. Horrifying.
"That final destination was an Amazon warehouse in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amazon employees who work at this location say all they do is receive massive shipments of printed books which they then cut the bindings off in order to scan the books more quickly. The printed book is destroyed in the process."
Cutting your parents off can totally be the answer. Might not be, but it can. It's a valid choice. Also, miss me with that 'right answer' nonsense. You can cut off people who do you harm. You do not have to teach them or rehabilitate them. Your first responsibility is to your health and safety.
lol come the fuck on

Thousands and thousands of people here at the Jason Arday vigil in Trafalgar Square. This was taken just before the 6pm start. It’s now too packed to take photos.
Serving notice that when you all hatewatch the Beatles biopic that you know is going to be awful, thereby making it successful instead of letting it receive the empty silence it merits, clogging the TL for days with Beatles biopic opinions, I’m gonna be quietly, privately mad at you
Iran doesn’t need to DDoS attack Bluesky. All it needs to do is post is “what if a DoorDash driver got caught by a speed camera on the way to someone who was having a bad day of executive function”
There’s a real struggle between making society more tolerable, respectful and sensitive to the needs and lived experiences of its citizens AND ALSO distress is an inevitable part of the human experience and distress tolerance is the key to preventing it from ruining your life
Ok, time for a thread about what I saw yesterday at #CrystalPalace. As you can see, just about everything has been repaired and re-painted, and in places (like the previously misidentified Xiphodon) re-positioned. It looks fantastic and you have to check it out, even if you've visited before...
I dunno why they’d bother when we’ve already had the greatest portrayal of the Beatles anyone’s ever going to make in Walk Hard

I always thought the Beatles biopics were a bad idea. This image only seems to confirm that.
We have never, ever experienced a drought like this; it is heading towards twice as long as anything ever recorded. That it's not already understood as a national disaster can only be ignorance and stupidity. Unrelated: chart of reservoir building in the UK, 1850-2020.
It’s even more pathetic than I expected. Clearly the radar last night was misleading. The rainless period ends at Kew with 0.2mm 50 days elapsed with no rain. At Heathrow it goes on, not for much longer granted today is 56th consecutive day with no measurable rain. (1/2)
I got hit by someone on a bike once. I was grumpy after, sore, and I went home to take some Advil and rest for the night. There was a kid I went to school with who got hit by a car. He died. The difference between the two is massive and anyone who acts like they’re comparable isn’t being serious.
14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!
Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"
Honestly, bring back those public information films that we got in the 80s Don't just put them on broadcast TV, put them on streamer ads, social platforms and use them to communicate these types of warnings Drum it into people's heads
Those who think the fire alert was overkill seriously underestimate the BBQ-related stupidity of some people. A few years ago, part of a Cambridge college almost burned down because some students decided to light a disposable BBQ on the lead roof on one of the buildings. 🙄
Every time I have a conversation with a friend who has kids about the cost/availability of childcare, I assume that the only reason parents haven't burnt the country to the ground is because they're all so tired.
The truly sad thing here is that talking about shortcomings in people's advocacy and organizing, and surfacing new critiques, is essential to making that work better, but some people go about it in the worst possible way and it fucking sucks for people actually doing the work.
If your response to something is looking for a way to make someone feel bad without presenting an actionable way to address the issue you're raising, the implication sure is '...and that's why things will never change!' It doesn't have to be that way! This is a Certain Kind of Internet I loathe.
