It’s great to see a standing room only on a 9-Montgomery bus after 8:30. We advocated for better bus service on the 9 last year but the best we could get was service extended later into the evening. Nonetheless, the demand is there and that’s great to see. Hope we can get better service.

My office was sent this video of masked ICE agents grabbing someone off the street on 2nd St between Erie St. & Jersey Ave. in Ward E. We have also been made aware of additional ICE sightings and abductions in Jersey City today, and have alerted Public Safety. ICE may be targeting delivery cyclists.
Police in many parts of Europe are very aggressive about enforcement and seeking out distracted drivers, while also having better designed streets. I don’t think we need to pit these things against each other.
Catching 74 distracted drivers in six hours is good, but what would be better is redesigning the street so drivers are forced to pay attention.
NYC DOT: "💡 We've identified a set of extremely bad and deadly drivers. It is very clear and isn't close". War on Cars: "🙈 Enforcement couldn't possibly work, this is whack-a-mole". We should be raising insurance and suspending licenses on these deadly drivers, not discounting enforcement.
There is a problem in the Vision Zero community of repeating a disproven and tired line of discounting traffic enforcement. Turning off traffic enforcement created a disaster. Road design didn't get worse yet crash deaths skyrocketed. NYCDOT found 2 cell phone violations / year = 40X KSI crash risk!
What the heck? War on Cars has jumped the shark. It is possible to improve design - but how about holding Apple and other smartphone manufacturers accountable to actually do that?
Join us for a Ward E Budget Town Hall! Over the past week, we've spent hours reviewing the proposed municipal budget, questioning department spending, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs while protecting essential city services.
My favorite proposed Meadowlands trails access project is the long-standing plans to connect the Tonnelle Ave HBLR station to the Meadowlands Exposition Center and the surrounding commercial district. Increase HBLR access & ridership and provide a missing link between Secaucus and North Hudson.
Does the Meadowlands have to be a bifurcated island of wetlands versus sports complex? The Regional Plan Association says no — and presents a vision for a walkable campus that improves flood resiliency, expands trails and connects it to surrounding communities. Is it feasible? More in my story.
The e-bike registration law is dumb for many reasons, but one of them is that if this is the hassle people have to go through to register something that puts around at 20mph, then what incentive is there to *not* get a 40mph rocket? Not my thing personally, but some people will go that route now.
“I’ll be damned if I’m paying the State of New Jersey again, I paid it six years ago.” NJ e-bike riders livid over double sales taxing from MVC, which is now offering refunds. More on that, other issues coming up at MVC and more unanswered questions. [new post with corrected link]
We are honored to support Fair Fares NJ. Every New Jerseyan deserves access to transit, and cost should never limit their access. Learn more about the campaign and tell Trenton it’s time to invest in riders: fairfaresnj.org/individual-a... #FairFaresNJ

"They walk the bridge once a day and pick-up four pickup trucks worth of debris" This is good coverage of the constant stream of material pollution coming off vehicles. My estimation biking locally – most local road debris is also car-related.

It is interesting Murphy's MVC was at the nexus of so much wrongdoing, from vast exports of fraudulently issued temp tags to the rest of the country to the more mundane of impossible waits for appointments and notorious hate-your-customer behavior.

I wish Jersey City libraries were open 24 hours. If they were, I could see myself at the library after a night of clubbing and working the dance floor. Then, reading a book about cardiovascular diseases. LOL
Really ugly to watch how Argentina played yesterday. Good write-up that sums things up. Spain played beautifully and played as team. Didn't let it get to them. Congrats to Spain for both their win and their class.
Argentina disgraced themselves, and the World Cup final, with their charmless petulance
Argentina's passion was an asset but too often in this World Cup it has spilled over into distasteful aggression

ICYMI: We wrote last week about how the NYNJ host committee failed to register with NJ OAG until 6/26, which means they may have unlawfully operated/solicited donations for 3+ years What was their response? Does it matter? Should you care? All of that ⬇️

🙏 Thank you Councilwoman @eleanalittle.bsky.social for standing up to the absurdity of Noemi Velazquez, Dejon Morris, and the rest of the JCBOE clown show. Would love to see mayoral control with oversight by the city council. The rolling JCBOE elections are low turnout; it's not democratic.

Kind of wild that with/after the rain, the air quality in Jersey City is still completely terrible (77.9 ug/m^3 is like maybe 220 AQI). Sometimes the world doesn't work the way it seems like it intuitively should.
Holymoly. I just got a reading of 191 ug/m^3 outside, more than 5 times higher. It's not safe to spend any significant amount of time outdoors right now.
Public sector healthcare costs far outpacing the private sector is going to destroy NJ. People get confused because of the feeling that healthcare costs are just out of control in general, but that just isn't true. Public sector can't be growing at ~17% while the private sector is growing at ~7%.

The spot AQI in Jersey City is roughly 137-171 right now. Even if you think you feel okay and don't smell the burnt from yesterday, air quality in actuality is extremely bad. I took a walk with a mask on, read 48-60 ug/m^3. AQI 100 = 35 ug/m^3; dividing gives the range.

Anyone else silly enough to be outside this eve? It was raining while it smelled burnt lol.
Two weeks ago we had 3 hit and runs in the city of Newark all in one week, 4 dead total. There’s a big problem in this state and it feels like you’re ignoring it Governor @mikiesherrill.bsky.social
Hit-and-run after hit-and-run in Newark and Jersey City. We need ghost plate enforcement.
