Profits from Caribbean plantations enabled wealthy British families to buy land, build homes, and secure social and political influence, embedding colonial wealth into the county's landscape.

Today is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. Around 500,000 Roma & Sinti people were killed by the Nazis in the Porajmos. There was no state given to them after the war. Commemoration of their suffering is often diminished or forgotten. Racism towards Romani people across Europe remains acceptable.

2 August 1943 | 1,000 Jews arrived at Auschwitz from Drancy in German-occupied France. After the selection 218 men & 55 women were registered as prisoners. The remaining 727 people were murdered in gas chambers. Françoise Sukno was among them. She was almost 3 months old.

This is the reply the BBC are sending to people who complained about Kuenssberg's interview with Badenoch. They kind of admit that they messed up, but "it happens". Wholly inadequate and I have submitted a follow-up complaint

Dear Mr Grey, Thank you for getting in touch with us about Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on 19 July. I understand that you have concerns about Laura's interview with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. Reviewing the broadcast, Laura challenged the Conservative leader by asking why they have rejected candidates who support the UK's Net Zero targets despite the Conservatives previously passing legislation to ensure the UK achieves net zero by 2050. Kemi Badenoch responded by saying that carbon emissions have increased since this law was passed and that the law "doesn't work". In a fast-flowing interview situation, it may not always be possible for an interviewer to cross-check every statement and claim that is made by a guest, we're sorry this spoiled the interview for you. We always seek to ensure that the interviewer's particular question is answered by the guest first and foremost. This issue could occur across a range of programmes, with a variety of guests and topics. There is no intention to treat any particular argument differently. We'd like to reassure you that there is no ulterior motive in either challenging or not challenging specific points on any occasion We have noted that you feel Kemi Badenoch's claim that carbon emissions have increased since the previous Conservative government's net zero laws came into place should have been challenged. Badenoch just said, on national TV, that UK's carbon emissions have gone up "in total" because of the 2008 Climate Change Act. They have, in fact, declined by more than half. Did #Kuenssberg break in to point this basic fact out? Of course not
