Just finished watching s2 of INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, and hoo boy, that's some great TV! Been awhile since I saw a TV season felt so well designed and firing on all cylinders like that. Very excited to dive into VAMPIRE LESTAT next!

Fabulous night seeing Sylvan Esso playing at Burlington Waterfront Park! They’ve expanded to a six-piece, which works well for most songs, but definitely a different vibe than a duo. Highlight was crowd demanding an encore for 10 minutes - and us getting “Funeral Singers” to end the night!

Something I like about @elazic.bsky.social's careful read here is that it points out a fatal flaw with a lot of pieces of writing that pass for "reviews" (even from critics!) because they talk about a movie: saying "this is bad!" as if it's self-evident, rather than arguing for *why* it is bad.

What blows my mind with AI is the people who are like "how could you possibly function without it?" To which I say, "you, YOU literally did until what like 3 years ago? Did it degrade your brain that fast that you can't figure out how to do the thing you trained for years and earned a PhD to do?"

Surely the solution here is just *don't use AI tools* for your writing and research and continue to do your writing and research in ALL the ways you were doing it before you started using AI instead of doing the work??

I have written to @societyofauthors.bsky.social asking that they call for publishers to compensate the authors whose US copyright they failed to register. That's a *lot* of authors.

In short.... 1) Manufacture a predicate of foreign interference in elections. 2) Declare national emergency. 3) Use executive authority with reckless abandon, hope it either gets checked too late or insufficiently. If works, they win 26. If doesn't, they lose and Trump sows post-election chaos.

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend Satan, the Prince of Lies. Though we often disagreed about matters such as the appropriate role of torture in the afterlife, I will most remember how his quick wit and affable nature made our weekly golf outings a ritual. He will be missed.

Talked to my doctor about sleeping issues - he sent me a sleep hygiene guide full of things I knew. Among the list of advice, it includes "Try to solve problems before you go to bed." This did not help with insomnia.
