Thank you for the platform! I don't like the phrase 'money can't buy x' (for any x), it's just too vague and not true when taking literally. It was great to juxtapose the ideas abt wellbeing @markfabian.bsky.social and I have been developing with those of @lfitouchi.bsky.social and moral psychology.

New episode of Crossing Channels now live! What can't money buy? @annaalexandrova.bsky.social & lfitouchi.bsky.social talk to Richard Westcott about the limits of markets & why not everything of value—such as dignity, fairness & trust—can be priced. bit.ly/3MPULEM @iast.fr @tse-fr.eu

What is the meaning of life? 🧪 Some will say "There is none!" But the question has niggled people at least since the The Epic of Gilgamesh, written more than 4000 years ago. It seems having a positive impact on others is key to feeling your life has meaning. www.newscientist.com/article/2513...

How to live a meaningful life, according to science

The meaning of life has puzzled philosophers for millennia, but new research suggests it could be as simple as lending a helping hand

Youtube: youtu.be/fgfjgFCx9D0?...

In this new paper, we look at some different dimensions on which beliefs vary: - Is the belief deeply important to your identity? - Would you change your mind if you got evidence against it? - Is it best described in terms of credences (“pretty sure”), or is it more yes/no? 1/

Maybe there are two distinct kinds of belief: they either represent facts (It's rainy) or express identity (My son is the best). We find instead that many beliefs simultaneously represent facts and express identity (but few beliefs do neither).

This is a super important paper, but honestly, I think the opposite. Integrity and authenticity of online-based panels have been in question prior to this risk agents. IMO this forces all providers to up their verification and transparency of their participants.e.g. www.prolific.com/resources/pr...

new paper by Sean Westwood: With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

Does this book offer groundbreaking research? No. A life-changing self-help plan? No. A workable taxonomy of spiritual experience? Still no. The most comprehensive review of the state of the science so far? Quite possibly... If interested, pre-order paperback at reduced price!

Psychologists & related fields: what is a big methods question that you believe remains somewhat unanswered & that you'd love to see adressed? There may be an opportunity for a large-scale meta-science project with many teams trying to figure out a question. Any thoughts welcome! #psychscisky

#ESR
