I don't think there will be a happy compromise with Agentic AI LLM stuff. There isn't a way to define the distinction between actually useful, looks useful-but isn't, useless, and forced on people who don't want it.

I have some thoughts and reflections as we near the 25th anniversary of 9/11. This is only one Canadian perspective, you have every right to disagree. This is an antithesis of a love letter to the USA. 25 years ago, the world watched in horror as one of our friends and neighbours was attacked

Ignorance of Canadian federalism among Canadian voters meant that Doug Ford's comprehensive failure to handle a local policing matter turned into Trudeau's problem; the lines of accountability in the UK are at least clearer.

I will say the Ottawa convoy protests feel quite similar to the UK thing. The more this stuff happens, even if people disagree with it, the more it looks like the govt is flailing and that plays right into authoritarian hands

I use social media to learn things and get info, creating links w/ people along the way. Twitter offered me a quick way to interact w/ companies’ customer service and I had a whole local community there I could rely on for news. Soon my 3-yr Bluesky anniversary is coming.

⬇️ Further evidence that the old saying that “public health is political” took on a whole new meaning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health is now contested in ways not seen for a long time & on an unprecedented scale. PH is fuel for normative & therefore political disagreement.

Numerous people in Saxony-Anhalt and other areas of eastern Germany that I’ve spoken to over the last month have explicitly identified the pandemic as a moment that “accelerated” the far-right Many people have a story of a family member who went down a rabbit hole and ended up aligning with the AfD

What a shock--Trump sends Witkoff and Kushner to meet first with Putin and reach an understanding, and naturally the Ukrainians have to say no. The idea that the US could be an honest broker in this war is madness. It is a stalking horse for the Russian dictator.

⚡️Update: 'The war will continue' — US peace push fails to achieve deal after Witkoff, Kushner's first visit to Kyiv. "We expect the war will continue," Zelensky said after the talks, adding that Ukraine is counting on U.S. energy and air defense support this winter.

Americans elected Donald Trump. No other country on earth had a say in the matter. Americans had the right to vote in an election, and they picked the guy. Americans are not victims of Donald Trump. They're perpetrators.

Listening to CBC The House, and they're talking to a lot of Americans who are not happy, and blame the politicians in both Washington DC and Ottawa. Frustrating listen. Canada made concessions to get CUSMA signed. We had a deal. We didn't go back on that deal, and we didn't start the trade war.

Two fatal flaws that mean this fund should never have been established: - Stop setting up yet more competing vertical funds - Voluntary corporate contributions don’t work. That’s why we have taxation $1bn in a year is wildly unrealistic www.politico.eu/article/un-l...

UN’s landmark nature restoration fund fails to raise almost any money

The Cali Fund has attracted just $6,000 from corporate contributors since it was launched in February 2025.

I think my greatest wish for fantasy is just that the genre (marketing) doesn't entirely suffocate the genre (conversations). What I see on bookstore tables labed Fantasy is so much more homogenous than what all my cool friends are writing, and while that has always been true it feels more so lately

What would you like to see more of in the fantasy fiction of the next five years? Where do you think the genre has room for growth and exploration--or which recent developments would you like to see continued?
