If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"
Sermons that bum me out: 1. Here are some academic thoughts about the Scripture but they don't actually, like, matter 2. Here is what you are doing wrong, it's probably about sex or how you dress 3. When you think about it, all that really matters to being nice like you learned in kindergarten
God is the interesting thing about the church!
This will only be my 15th time in 51 years where I won't be at school or working on a campus somewhere, and I don't like it
We focus so much on individuals in academia as if it's about just having a few brilliant minds/a few brilliant places where knowledge can happen. But knowledge creation is a COLLECTIVE effort. And we're undermining that every step of the way by needing celebrity superstars...
And this is what has already happened to the club game, most prominently in UEFA.
Neoliberalism in a nutshell. UEFA on FIFA's proposal: “The moment external investors acquire ownership interests ... football changes forever. Commercial return becomes a permanent obligation. ... Every decision is no longer driven by what best serves the game, but by what best serves shareholders.”
Telus dropped off a new google TV box and said it was "plug and play", which of course means it took me an hour to set up and only half the stuff worked. I miss cable tv and blockbuster
Technology is cool, too bad they made it evil
I love @letterboxd.social so here are 3 ideas to make it even better: 1. Add a Now Watching function 2. Make a search filter to show the films your friends rate highly but you have NOT watched 3. Add TV series that were a complete story arc
My fam went to Langley Vineyard a few times when Brian Doerksen was there. I was in jr high and recall feeling impressed and taken aback at the heartfeltness of that church. Over the years, CCM got pretty ridiculous, but he seemed to mature in ways it didn't. All that to say: RIP Brian Doerksen.
Thinking about all the bigchurch pastors who hid our denom's statements of faith and ethics from websites and attendees, made up their own, and left it to others to swim uphill to address insufficiencies in policy for the sake of a living theology. Their reward: long careers and much esteem.
“We’d all be better off if we accepted our place in the natural order of things. My place in that order is at the top, obviously, but that’s just coincidence.”
Mark Carney just allowed war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu to fly through Canada despite a warrant for his arrest and the country being a signatory to the Rome Statute. We have aided and embedded one of history's greatest monsters
Even in Canada, I fear that the key lessons politicians have “learned” from the pandemic is that it is less political trouble for them to let people die than it is to do what’s necessary to keep them alive.
man I will just never get over the fact that the collective response to the pandemic, and an absolutely miraculous vaccine development, was to destroy public health in this country and smear everyone involved I generally take a positive view of humanity overall but it's so depressing
Every time the Telus call centre takes an hour to walk us through a troubleshoot of their TV & internet service, I'm mindful that they are saving on labour by passing that labour on to us.
At a walk in clinic and I just declined to sign a "permission to use AI" document. I mean, at least they asked
Very cool that Shopify’s CEO thinks the poor should have far less of a vote than the rich. Still worth that ad read money, folks?
Church people who celebrate a a God who heals should rethink their reflex vote for this crap
As Danielle Smith gets ready to move Alberta one step closer to private healthcare, let’s take a moment to remember her own words… #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
Thanks Rich, here are my picks for top #5DebutAlbumsSF2. 1) Counting Crows, August and Everything After (5 pts) 2) The Band, Music from the Big Pink 3) Phoebe Bridgers, Stranger in the Alps 4) Tracy Chapman 5) Dire Straits
starting to think the profit motive in news is just as damaging to society as the profit motive in health care or education or transportation or housing or food or... hmmm wait a minute
Looking at smokey orange skies and unsolicited AI roll-outs. Blade Runner 2049 was a great movie but why does the corporate political class think we wanted to live in it?
"If my opponents win, more Americans could get full representation in our participatory democracy, and that would be bad for me" may be the most honest campaign pitch he's ever delivered
Trump: "The Democrats are gonna terminate the filibuster as soon as they have a chance and then they're gonna approve DC and Puerto Rico as states. They get 4 more senators, 12 more congressmen, like 40 electoral votes ... you don't want to see me cry."

Coming Fall 2026 👀
A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.
It happens. It's the noise of life. If we're going to complain about ambient nose in tight public spaces let's talk about loud phone talkers or blaring video with no headphones
I cannot overstate how much I hate when people are dicks about babies crying in public (especially airplanes). Do you think the parent is having a good time right now?? Do you think they are not aware of the situation??? Are you going to negotiate with a literal infant????
