Watching THE BRIDE! again today just made me realize how relevant its portrayal of feminine rage is and remember that it's incredibly punk rock. It's not perfect but it's an extraordinary work of art from a female filmmaker that is worthy of reassessment.

Revisiting THE BRIDE! A fierce performance from Jessie Buckley and a bold swing by director Maggie Gyllenhaal, that mostly works for me, but I expect it to be completely overlooked in awards conversations, which is sad.

One of my goals in writing this book was to get a copy in every college library so that survivors entering the Title IX system would know what they were getting into—and be able to use that knowledge however they wanted. But a lot of schools banned the book.

For every story like the Cornell gang rape, there are thousands more that couldn’t make it into the light. I wrote about a few dozen of them at one university in On the Wrong Side. The university’s treatment of survivors is eerily similar to what Jane Doe at Cornell experienced.

“It’s not ALL men.” None of the 50+ men the Cornell rapists invited to come join them in raping a woman they’d drugged went to the authorities or tried to stop it. Not all men would rape an unconscious woman, but where are the men who’d try to stop it, or EVEN FUCKING OBJECT?

The Trump admin is going to make for fascinating history papers, on the nature of banal greed, how it eats itself, and how evil is an unstable tower, constantly toppling and rebuilding on wet sand.

YAY!!! Check out what the incredible @opinionessworld.bsky.social and I thought about Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil over at @insessionfilm.bsky.social! Special thanks for them for having me on again! I had such a blast!

Five corporations control 90% of the US media. Airlines have merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

Until California has a NY-style insurgent win this will continue, and between the top-two system and the sheer money needed to break the establishment that's very unlikely. Disheartening, ain't it?

He got pressure from the whole CA Democratic political establishment (Newsom, Becerra, Bass). And ultimately he's a product of the machine too, appointed by Newsom. The CA machine is among the worst in the country precisely because its decision-making is so critical to the country.

Don't forget, Bonta most likely got pressure from Newsom who bragged last week he gave tax breaks to that industry. Connect the dots. Gavin is against taxing the rich, but has no problem leveling heavy taxes on average Californians in 2027. And don't forget, he signed a 'gas spike' law which sits.

The worst part of Bonta caving on the Paramount merger is that it's a big flashing signal to every other company that there is no antitrust enforcement in America and you can bully your way into getting whatever you want. It's a monumentally bad decision.
