Incidentally, I hear that with the Gulf Stream breaking down, Britain could end up with a climate like Labrador. But yeah, "Mediterranean lifestyle."

One thing that's really weird when you think about it is this premise of every standup has-been that comedy has gotten *less* edgy with time. Like imagine if Bob Hope were out there in the 80s saying that today's audiences could *handle* his stuff from the 1950s.

However you feel about Christopher Nolan, I do 100% hope that adapting epic poetry becomes the next big trend in Hollywood. We need a Gilgamesh movie; we need a Paradise Lost; we need a Song of Roland.

I've said before: we should bring back dialogues, so instead of carefully and defensively writing around any argument you could think of, you can just write a part where the argument gets made by someone named Uggo Dumbfuck and refute it directly.

100%. Don’t let TERFs colonize the narrative here. Most studies show that lesbians are far more likely to be trans accepting than almost any other group. It’s just, as queer ppl, we’re more likely to be in proximity to a lesbian transphobe than a straight one.

I rly need other trans women to stop accepting the lie that cis lesbians are in any sense uniquely transphobic. Literally cis lesbians support trans people more than other trans people do. Don't let your (very understandable) fears get in the way of having rly cool friends

Every time someone calls Hegseth's testosterone program or Elon's hair plugs "gender affirming care," I wince. Speaking only for myself, and I know the jokes are well-intentioned: I wish we'd retire this one. New from me on why. www.readtpa.com/p/theres-no-...

There’s No Gotcha Here

Calling Hegseth’s testosterone program "gender-affirming care" trivializes trans healthcare and misreads what we’re up against. Speaking only for myself: knock it off

Starmer’s resignation is a warning, but we’ve run this experiment at home. Sinema, Golden, and Fetterman made the same bet: that poll-tested moderation is a safe harbor. All saw their support crater. In a moment like this, tacking right isn’t the safe play, it’s the thing that sinks you.

one thing i genuinely wish both Labour and Dems would do is stop over-relying on electoral gurus like Morgan McSweeney and actually hire political scientists and sociologists to investigate "okay, how does class formation happen now, and how does it shape political votes? how do we win?"

the issue is (as Skocpol pointed out in Rust Belt Union Blues) is that socialization has gone from union halls to basically Fox News, so economic populist/social con voters are socialized more towards the GOP than the Dems

Last time Congress messed with the number of SCOTUS seats wasn’t over mundane policy disputes in normal cases. It was to defend Reconstruction, the settlement of a literal civil war, from any Johnson appointments. It’s not flippant hyperbole when we describe the post-Trump agenda as Reconstruction.

Really loving Iain M. Banks's "Culture" series. It's like Star Trek for people who want the Federation to be more anarchist and 1 million times more insidious.
