Bet you didn't know that the Little Morton Salt Girl is an immortal being who existed before there was life on Earth.

Neo: The World Ends With You is a cool-ass video game. That's it. That's the skeet.
This post has it backwards, IMO. The Criterion crowd doesn’t really need to be “introduced” to very famous genre work, and Criterion has showcased anime before. More exciting is the possibility that this will draw anime fans to Criterion and help introduce them to the wider world of film!
Spider-Man was fun! The MCU as a project has spent an extended period of time tripping over its own grandiosity, so it's good to see a movie that's actually interested in these characters -as characters-. Sink is quite good (O'Dessa was not her fault). Holland shines with Bernthal and Zendaya.
Say what you want about needless remakes. (No movie is necessary. Every film is technically unneeded.) The fact that Jordan is directing this himself is what’s exciting about it. Creed 3 was extremely stylish and MBJ applying his anime sensibilities to a suave heist story is really enticing.
THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR: Michael B. Jordan’s Reimagined Take On The Classic Heist Flick Gets A Trailer "Jordan directs, produces, and stars in a visually breathtaking, sensual, and unexpectedly moving heist thriller, where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody's watching."
Ironically, Johnny Depp playing Ebenezer Scrooge in a prequel to "A Christmas Carol" that was neither requested nor desired is, itself, a visitation from the The Ghost of Jared Leto Yet To Come.
Everything about this looks like a 30 Rock joke, right down to it looking as if it has cost only about as much as a 30 Rock joke to put on screen.
OK, we've had the talk about bullying and the discourse that's been bubbling today. Let's do something positive: What as your coolest, most favorite experience as an anime fan? Doesn't have to be anything special, just has to be something that you remember fondly.
When that samurai that totally missed you clicks his sword into his scabbard.
Absolutely insane shot by Guzman Ramos ✨
Everything looks cooler with a tattered cloak. It's science.

This is an outstanding book.
Might as well seize the moment to recommend folks check out @ryankelly.bsky.social, Jordie Bellaire, and @kierongillen.bsky.social's terrific mini-series THREE from a decade and change back. It's a scathing deconstruction of 300 that succeeds in part by being thrilling itself.
THREE is really good and really overlooked, LIKE ALL MY BOOKS. By me, Kieron Gillen, Jordie Bellaire and Clayton Cowles. 2013 Softcover TPB still out there and available for purchase. Image Comics. Recommended.

The best film teacher I ever had built a class on The Wild Bunch. Aside from it being a spectacular film, it’s a keystone work in the history of US film and its engagement with violence.
Name a film that changed your consciousness.
I’ve got a joke about the Minotaur, but I’m worried it’s too labyrinthine.
I’ve got a joke about Cassandra you wouldn’t believe.
I’ve got a joke about the cyclops, but Nobody wants to hear it.
I've got a joke about Icarus, but it's too hot for the room.
if any of you want to catch an early Sam Neill movie that is criminally underseen rather than watch one of his hits: Dead Calm. Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane kinda own the movie but Neill’s more subtle role/performance grounds their work in a terrific horror-thriller.
RIP Sam Neill. We talk a lot about Isabelle Adjani’s terrifying & layered powerhouse performance in POSSESSION. Neill is just as seismic. Made me never want to be put in a situation where i gotta get divorced. Whole thing really feels like watching someone kill it all over love.
An all time great freak. What an actor. Tremendously sad 💔
It's officially summer, so I commissioned @miyo02.bsky.social to draw my favorite vampire, Arcueid Brunestud, in a swimsuit. Here, she's slaying another of my favorite vampires, the 2024 incarnation of Count Orlok. Why is Orlok decked out in @killbykill.bsky.social podcast gear? Why not?
