10 years ago today I walked out of the hospital after surviving Ebola. Back then I begged the world to strengthen our response to that crisis and prepare for others. I’ve been reflecting on what we’ve learned over the last decade. And the role of the U.S. in global health🧵

This is extremely chilling - virologists being targeted for what appears to be minor (if any) "offenses". We all know _why_ this is happening, so I'm not going to belabor that point - but I want to provide some context on the technical details. 🧵 www.science.org/content/arti...

Tapping the sign. None of the (numerous) comments submitted so far have said anything particularly new or useful. If you are an actual hantavirus expert, as in worked on it before (not just read something on the internet), or involved in current public health response, I'll happily hear from you.

Could the hanta virus influencers (virulencers?) please stick to social media and not submit comments to my journal? I get it, this is interesting and you have an opinion. But we don't know enough, it's a developing situation, and it would take at least a couple weeks for us to publish. Tx.

I've spent yesterday and today talking to researchers across the globe trying to understand the hantavirus outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius. My story in @science.org is here (and some threaded thoughts coming): www.science.org/content/arti... 🧪 #IDsky
